BATTALION,COMPANY K.HIS NAME IS ON " JOHNSON'S " LIST AND HE DID MAKE THE MARCH TO N. KOREA AND SUPPOSEDLY DIED IN A CAMP ON 22 NOVEMBER 1950. A FRIEND AND I HAVE TRIED TO FIND SOME ONE WHO WAS WITH ART WHILE A PRISONER OF WAR THAT COULD SHED SOME LIGHT ON HIS DEATH. HIS MOTHER AND SISTER ARE BOTH DECEASED, BUT HE HAS A NEPHEW STILL LIVING WHO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THESE DETAILS, AS WELL AS NUMEROUS FRIENDS WHO KNEW ART. AFTER ALMOST 50 YEARS OF WONDERING I WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A CLOSURE ON HIS LIFE AND DEATH.

Comments: Chief (Colonel) Bill Wyrick has appointed me as his assistant Historian for THE THIRD BN, 21ST REGT,for the Time Frame of 1 July thru 14 July 1950. Any one having a particular story of their experience with the 3rd Bn during these times, please contact me. I will be glad to respond with what I know to any who makes such an inquiry of me. Our Bn Commander Lt Col Carl C Jensen was killed in his Command Post on the 11th of July 1950 and almost all officers and senior NCO"s of the Regiment were killed or captured on the 10th or 11th of July 1950. I want to recontruct the story and be as accurate as possible, eye witness accounts are better than some things I have read by various Pundits (authors) Love to ya' LTC Ralph E. Comments: It may be of interest to note that the debriefing we all went thru after repatriation, caused me to be released from active duty as an Officer in August 195.

Reason, my name was mixed up with a person of a similar name. That person was a "Big Time" callaborator with the Chinese.

I was considered for courtmartial, but released instead without the Army telling me why.. Under the Freedom of Information Act, two years ago, I found out the real reason.

In my appeal I was fully exonerated, restored to commissioned service to the day before my release as a Captain and Promoted to Lt. Col. effected Nov 66 as compensation for the unjust action taken against me.

I have no ill feelings towards anyone for this. I was denied a career as an officer, but I am proud of my service as an E7 and later as a CWO3. Without this life, I wouldn't have the family I have now, nor the friends I have now.

I especially appreciate all those POW's of the TIGER SURVIVOR GROUP, who have stood by me during all of this.

I support the efforts of Shorty Estabrook, Hal Barker, Bill Wyrick, Lynnita Sommers, Rose McKinley and others who work diligently for the Korean War Veterans and former POW's.

To all and everyone, I send My Love.

Eli
