Comments: My father, Hugh S. Carpenter served in Korea in 1951 to 1952 in the
area known as The Iron Triangle. Dad has no computer, so he asked
me to help him. He has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer
and is receiving treatment a the local VA hospital. My dad was on Hill
364 overlooking Kumsong Province on Jan. 23, 1952. Later in my
father's tour of duty he was WIA and had to be e-vacted to a hospital in
Japan. He never received his Purple Heart. It would be a great thrill for
my father to reconnect with any of the buddies he fought along side,
some of their names are Castanga, Spero, Esposito, Dvoreck, Everly.
Their spelling may be incorrect, for that I apologize. Any information
would be most greatly appreciated. May God bless you all!

unit my Father-in-law was in. I have narrowed down
his unit to 24th Infantry Division, 21st Infantry
Regiment. I know that he was injured on 10 July
1950. If anyone can help with the Battalion, Company
and Platoon, I would be forever thankful. The
soldier's name is Robert McCoy from New
Hampshire/Vermont. The man just died and knowledge
of this tough time would be wonderful for his
family. Thank you for your help.

Comments: I know this is a long shot but I am desperately trying to get information about my fathers military service during the Korean War. He passed away back in 1995 and never talked about it. I do know, from the records I tracked down that on Feb 9, 1951 he stepped on a land mine while on patrol and his leg remained blue until he died.

All the papers confuse me since he was a Sgt but honorably discharged as a private. I just want to know what happened to him over there. I just want closure and am looking for reasons that explain his behavior.

A BIG HEARTFELT THANK YOU to ALL WHO SERVE OUR COUNTRY!!!

Comments: My father served in the the U.S. Army from November 1952 - August 1954. During this period he was in the 45th Division, 279th Regiment, a National Guard Unit from Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Having more time left to serve my father was transferred to Company B, 21st Infantry Regiment, APO 24. During this period, Company B was in combat in Korea. My father was awarded the CIB (Combat Infantry Badge). All this being said, my father's DD-214 did not show that he was awarded this decoration. My father has asked me to find out any information that I can to try and get his record corrected. He and my mother tried through the Army's Board of Correction of Military Records, however, because of the fire in 1973, they believe that his records were part of those that were destroyed and that leaves it up to him to prove that he was there. We have a picture of him at a house in Korea with a Korean child, with the badge clearly shown on his uniform, however this did not persuade the board. My father's name is Billy Sanders Caudle. He never spoke about his wartime experiences and he died when I was eleven. I would really appreciate any info or stories that anyone might have.

I found an fascinating account of a battle at Hill 296, which he called "Sleeping Bag Hill." Apparently, it was called that because at the onset of the battle, sleeping bags were left all over the hill and by the end they were ripped to shreds, and feathers were everywhere. Referenced in my father's papers were a "Col. Stephens, Joe Griffith, Freddie Pickens (KIA), Hugh Brown, Col. "Mac" McConnel."

I would be happy to provide the papers to any interested or related persons.

Comments: I am doing research on Corporal Leon Flake who was wounded in both legs on Sept 2, 1950 during Company K's assault on Hill 99. I am interested in any recollections of the assault on Hill 99 and anyone who might have known Corporal Flake. He was especially interested in finding out the name of an African American officer who commanded medical personel at the field hospital where Co K wounded were taken. Many of the wounded spent the evening in a stream, thus avoiding death by the North Koreans who usually dispatched the wounded if they captured them. Corporal Flake was pulled out of the stream and rescued before being carried to the hospital. Did South Koreans assist in carrying off the wounded? I would love to communicate with any veterans or their relatives who were on Hill 99.

Comments: I am searching for any information regarding my late uncle Paul R. Sanders, Love Company, Captured 12 July 50. FYI, Life Magazine featured him and my grandparents in their 11 September 50 issue. If any one knew him or has information, please contact me. He was a good guy!
God bless you all!

Comments: I'm looking for anyone who might have known PFC Arthur M. Sarner he
resided in the 21st Infantry regiment and was wounded in battle on
August 2, 1951 near Hwachon, Korea. He was my grandpa and I never got
the chance to talk to him about much when he was alive, I'd really like to
learn more about anyone who might have known or fought with him.
