He didn’t like to talk about his time in Korea so it wasn’t brought up much. Even my mother said she had only spoke to him a handful of times regarding it. She remembers he told her that one night during battle on a hill the enemy shined floodlights on them. I was wondering if anyone had any specific details as to what battle this was. I would love to know the battles he fought in and where they were located to honor him and his time in the service fighting for our country. Thank you & I hope to hear from someone. He was in the 1745th Co. A 279th INF Regt. I think he was in Korea during 1951 for 9
months. Like everyone else, he got the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations
Service Medal.
He also got 2 bronze stars with the Korean Service Medal. I never knew any of this
and was wondering where I could find out what the bronze stars were for. I know he
was a sharpshooter during the war and he did mention that he saw combat several
times. But beyond that he never talked about it and we were instructed not to ask him
either by our mother.
Just wanted to find more info on this, where the regiment or Co. battled etc... My

Comments: Hi--
I am looking for anyone that may have known my grandfather, Lamar Morris, who served in the 279th INF, Company G & I, 2nd BT during 1952-1954. Went through training at Fort Campbell. I've only heard a few stories and his memory is not what it used to be, but here is what I know--
Was one of the biggest men in his company (over 6'3!), born and raised a farm boy in Alabama. I believe he served as a BAR man at one time.
He hated guard duty at night! Too many things running through his mind in the dark.
He was engaged in some kind of hand-to-hand combat when there was a surprise attack on a supply truck, I believe (details may be wrong).
He later became a jeep driver/chauffeur for a high-ranking officer (possibly a General?) not long before being discharged and hit a landmine. He and the officer were some of the only ones to survive.
He is 90 and still kicking and I would love to read him some memories, as well as just being able to get to know him before he was my "grandaddy." He will always be the greatest man I have ever known, and after hearing him say "I wouldn't trade a million dollars for it, but I'd never do it again," last night after telling me some stories for the first time I wanted to learn more.

He has been admitted to hospice and doesn't have much longer I believe. If anyone would like to visit him or attend the funeral when the time comes, he currently resides in Port Charlotte, FL. He suffered a stroke recently and can no longer speak. He also has no use of the entire left side of his body. He is too weak to eat and has a feeding tube and his organs are slowly shutting down. I don't know too much about his service to help out, but what I do have is the following: He has a Korea service medal with bronze star and an occupation of Japan medal, and I was told he was a full bird Colonel. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2004 before I had a chance to see if he would open up to me, a fellow vet. As with many other vets, his records were destroyed in the fire in St. Louis and as such Im having some difficulties in reconstructing his records.
Ive been told that his unit was activated in July, 1950, sent to Camp Polk (now Ft. Polk), LA in November, 1950, arrived in Hokkaido, Japan in April, 1951, landed in Korea in late December, 1951 and that he returned home around July, 1952.
Im most interested in finding out about his experiences, the men he served with, the battles/engagements he was in, his platoon, etc. Ive been told that he was awarded the Bronze Star for actions in Korea, however, with the loss of his records, I dont know why. Any information is appreciated.

he fought in. I believe that he was in the Chorwon Valley
during the winter or 1951-1952.

Comments: He was a field wireman in (HQ Co.??) of the 279th
Infantry Regiment and saw action in some battles for
Old Baldy and Heartbreak Ridge. Am attempting to find
if these were Unit Citations or perhaps for personal
acts of valor. Will appreciate any information you
can offer. If you have or know where any information
can be found please contact me
Thank you.

Comments: I am searching for information on my grandfather, Carl
Jack Dennis. He was from Missouri and served in Korea.
He was in the 45th division, 1st battalion, 279 infantry.
He passed away when I was 11 and he never told anyone
in the family about his military time and I didn't have
time to ask. I filled out the form 80 but his records
were destroyed in a fire in St. Louis. I have no other
information to go on and don't know what to do to find
out more. I do have all of his medals from his uniform.
I am hoping anyone with information can email
me as soon as possible. I would appreciate any
information anyone can give me.
Thank you!
