He was a munitions handler and recounts many long marches with full packs around Okinawa, frequently placed on high alert for getting on a ship to Korea. He talked about a sergeant who had been in Korea with most of his unit killed who kept imploring them to listen to him if they wanted to survive if/when they got to Korea. Comments: My Great Uncle Roy Boyd was in the 29th Inf. Reg. In 1949 in the occupation of Okinawa and was later sent back home and 6 months later was rushed into the Korean War. He was on many battles in the beginning of the Pusan Perimeter, was wounded while carrying a officer on his back for several miles. Three bullets to the leg was his wounds, he was pit on the hospital and soon was back in the battle of Pusan until he was hit with shrapnel from a mortar that hit his back and face several weeks later he was sent back into battle. But that is where it gets weird he is now apart of the 1st cavalry division and 2nd infantry division and 29th Inf. Reg. Was back in Okinawa. Is that possible he moved units? Also no records of him exist they were all burned in the great 1973 fire in the National Archives along with many other records of men. he was a highly decorated soldier from Texas medals include: distinguished service cross, 4 silver stars, soldiers medal, bronze star V device, 3 purple hearts, commendation medal?, good conduct, occupation medal, national defense, Korean service, UN Korea service medals. I am trying to receive the Medal of Honor in his memory since he died in 1989 from a heart attack. Any info please email me

Comments: The history or what happened to the 29th Infantry Regiment at Hadong and Chinju in the opening days of the war has been rather obscure, but the new book Prairie Boys at War: Korea (Volume I) provides substantial coverage of events. It also follows the fates of many of the men who were captured/MIA, which are woven throughout to the conclusion, where the main body of the prisoners reached the end of their journey at the Sunchon Tunnel Massacre.

The feel of the book can be found at www.prairieboybooks.com, and contact information for the author is also available on the site. For Korean combat veterans who cannot afford a copy of the book, special arrangements can be arranged.

Comments: My Son recently made me aware of your project and I looked it over. I was at Hadong and was wounded there. I wastaken to a field hospital around July 27th or 28th and was evacuated to the 155 Station Hospital in Yokahama, Japan. After that I returned to Korea and joined Co. M 27th Infanry Reriment until my tour was complete. I noted that my name did not apear on the casualty list for Hadong. I lost many friends there, and to me its just like it happened yesterday.

Comments: I am trying to find information about the 29th Inf Reg in Korea from July to September, 1950. My Uncle Davy was KIA on Sept. 21, 1950. He definitely deployed form Okinawa, as I have his letters and his Individual Deceased Personnel File. This report says he was operating with the 8th Cav Reg on the day he was killed and I've always been told he was attached to the 1st Cav Div. Is that possible? How could he be with the 8th Cav Reg. if he was in the 29th Inf Reg. I am planning to visit the site, near Kumhwa Dong, Korea where he was KIA on the 60th anniversary of his death, Sept. 21. Please Help me if you know of anyone during that time in L-Co; 2nd Rifle Platoon.
God Bless all Korean Vets,
A soldier's daughter.
