Comments: I have an original copy of the VF-721 Unit Book for the tour of duty on the USS Boxer during the Korean War.
I can scan and send copies of pictures if requested.
I also have an Original Starbusters Patch and the UN Patch, I can send pictures.
This is not an offer to sell these items, they were my Father's and I will not part with them, however I am willing to send copies via e-mail.
Thanks,
Mark Thoms

Comments: I am an artist, and am working on a piece depicting the Grumman F9F-5 currently owned by the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Dallas Texas. If any one has a copy of the squadron emblem while embarked on USS Boxer or USS Kearsarge I would like to see it you by way of an e-mail attatchment or photocopy. Also I am interested in the two mentioned carriers.
Respectfully Gary Hay

Comments: I am doing research on naval air combat in the Korean War. November 21, 1952 Robert C. Hopping USN of VF-721 became MIA west of Yangdok NK. USN records list the cause as AAA or "probably AAA" depending on source. Soviet MiG pilot Sr.Lt NM Sokurenko claimed an aircraft that day he ID'ed as a USAF F-84. A guncamera shot of the flaming target has been published, not clearly distinguishable as an F-84 or F9F; no F-84's were lost on this date. Can anyone provide additional information on this VF-721 loss?
