Comments: I was airman aviation structural mechanic/designated striker.I was the squadron painter and in the 1952-53 deployment the squadron was never designated the black knights during this deployment.I remember the xo being a cmdr Tavernetti.The vf-783 squad were wwII reserves from nas dallas/tx and the unit was redesignated vf-122 ,regular navy during this deployment.

RESERVE SQUADRON WAS AT N.A.S. LOS ALAMITOS, AND BECAME "VF-783". THE RESERVE SQUADRON WAS CALLED TO
ACTIVE DUTY ON 02,AUG.,1950, WITH THE OUTBREAK OF THE
KOREAN WAR IN JUNE,1950. THE RESERVE SQUADRON'S FIRST
TOUR IN THE KOREAN WAR WAS ABOARD THE USS BON HOMME

Comments: I am trying to gather information about the air combat operations of USN squadrons in Korea. In case of VF-783 I am interested in any information about the MiG encounter of CVG-102 F4U’s and AD’s from Bob Homme Richard 27 November 1951, or the more well known encounter 18 November 1952 by CVG-102 F9F’s from Oriskany.
Any further info on any of these encounters, by VF-783 or any squadron in CVG-102, first hand or not, would be helpful.
