Comments: I am as before writing for my dad who now is 88 years old and does not fully grasp computers. My dad Jack Preis was aboard the Antietam CV 36 Task Force 77 with VF 831. Many years ago he had a jacket with his squadron patch sewn on it and through the years it was misplaced. My dad was and is a true inspiration to me and I joined the Navy and served 26 years both active and reserve. The day I retired I called him to thank him and to tell him how much he means to me. I have enclosed my e mail and if you know where I could get a squadron patch for him, that would mean so much to him. I served my country when she called and did so during some hard times but would do it again if the need arose. Thank you.

Comments: On the Antietam 9/52- 5/53. In combat over Korea, shot down in North Korea-resqued and brought back a live Christmas tree for the Antietam. "Hosit the anchors! Here we go..." We used to sing this song all the time as kids.

Comments: HARP (Historic Aircraft Restoration Project) is
a group of volunteers who are restoring a number
of USN/USMC and USCG aircraft that were based at
NAS New York, Floyd Bennett. VF-831 and its
sister squadron VF-837 were based at NASNY and
were activated for combat tours aboard USS Antietam and later USS Princeton. I am HARP's
historian. I am spending personal funds to
establish a museum of photographs, flight equip-
ment, squadron insginia, etc., of the Navy/USMC
and NY Air Guard units that served at NASNY and
fought in Korea. I'd love to obtain more photos
of VF-831/837 aircraft and personnel at NASNY and
also aboard ship during their combat tours. I have
a number of photos of F9F-2s launching and in the air as well as photos of squadron personnel aboard
ship.

Can you put me in touch with former members of
831/837. Perhaps I can give them copies of
material too. Thanks Marty
