Comments: While researching my father's verbal history of his command as 3rd Bat. 7th coomander I started with a dearth of information. He had told me of the 3rd's fight to the death with the chinese as the rear guard during the Marine withdrawal from the Chosin Res. Initial contact with members of the 7th Reg. brought responses that were universal in the claim that the 7th and the balance of the 3rd Div. merely held the ring around the port from which the marines and the 3rd Div. were evacuated. Further research proved that the 3rd of the 7th was, in fact, in the thick of the withdrawal from the Chosin and were actually the last troops out as they held the rear guard position for the Marines, were cut off at the rear of the Marine withdrawal and had to independantely fight their way through the many Chinese Divisions to the Port. They were called "Task Force Dog" and have been ignored by history to the point that even fellow 7th Regiment soldiers are unaware of their travail. It is a fascinating tale, albeit practically unknown to the general population. I would appreciate hearing from any veterans that were involved with Task Force Dog in its fight to the death with the Chinese hordes.
