Comments: I am looking for information on my grandfather Sgt Robert J Giberson. The only Army information I have is from his Bronze Star notice dated Jan 1952 for a battle on April 25, 1951 near Kungp-yong-ni. He passed away following an accident in 2002 and looking for anyone that may remember him and willing to share some stories (the good and the bad) of their time together overseas.
God Bless.

Comments: Hi -

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the "authentic" 7th Infantry Division shoulder patch looked like during the Korean War(?). I am particularly interested in the border color.

I've seen a wide variety of patches for sale here and there with all sorts of border colors: red, black, olive drab, dark green. They can't all be right.

I think the OD border was used during WWII, but I'm just not sure about the Korean War timeframe. If any veterans out there can tell me the facts, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks! -

Comments: I am still looking for someone who may have served with my uncle, Jack L. Vining, from Muncie, Indiana. He was KIA on October 14, 1952, apparently from head wounds because they wouldn't let his family view the upper half of his body when it came home in January 1953. My grandmother identified him by a scar on his leg from a shrapnel wound he had received months earlier in Korea. He had described it so well in one of his letters that she knew exactly where it was located and what it looked like. He served with the 82nd Airborne during his first enlistment at Fort Bragg and then re-upped into infantry. My mother (his sister) said it was the stupidest move he ever made, especially when he became a forward observer. His favorite phrase that he used in his letters was "you know what I mean, jelly bean?" He was a prolific letter writer and is reputed to have been quite the ladies' man, as well--a girl in every port, so to speak. If anyone knew Jack, please contact me right away.

Comments: My Dad, Richard Rogers. served in Korea a couple of different times from the period 1950-1953. He was stationed out of Fort Indian Town Gap, Pa. All I know is that he was in the 7th Recon. He retired from the US Army around 1961-1963 and was a master Sergeant in Fort Know KY. He was a drill instructor at the time. I am looking for information on anyone that knew him, what his Sergeant Chevron might have looked like and anything he would have worn on his uniform. I want to make a memory quilt for him for Christmas to include as much of his Army experience as possible and it is difficult not knowing much about it as he never speaks about it. He is having serious medical problems and is not in the best of shape, and I know he would appreciate this memory quilt very much if I can obtain enough information to make it. Does anyone know where I might get information from the US Army about him, ie., any medals he might have won, his proper chevron colors and what it looked like, his dog tag #, any other pins or whatever may have been part of his uniform, etc. Thanks so much for all your help.

I was a squad leader Gunner, On an M16 Half Track with QUAD FIFTY CALIBER MACHINE GUNS. I had the name MuleTrain painted above the white star on both sides of my half track.I am trying to locate the Battalion commander of the Artillery unit that was at Huksu-Ri.Or any of the infantry unit that was there, And remembers our HORREDOUS BATTLE THAT NIGHT.We had placed a fifty five gallon drum of gas on both sides of the road entry in to the valley, And covered them with hay.The night the shooting started the tanks had set the gas on fire. It lit up the entrance into the valley like high noon, Bright, And Sunny. The Chinese troops came marching into the valley four abreast with rifles slung on their shoulders, Just as if they were going to march in, And take over.I opened fired with my QUADS, and killed the enemy as fast as my guns could spit out the bullets. The Chinese just kept on comeing, Stepping over their dead comrades. After I killed 400+, They finally broke ranks nd ran for the mountains. I covered the Mountains as far as my fifty Cal. would reach, From the valley floor to the top of the Mts.
The next Morning ,The commander of the artillery unit came to our position, And started Yelling,( WHO TE HELL WAS FIRING THOSE MACHINNE GUNS. Sensing we were in trouble,Every one pointed at me, And said he was. So I yelled back I was so what. The Co. said that was the BEST DAMN SHOOTING HE EVER SAW.He told me he was putting me in for the G.M.H.Then we left out the next morning, And the Chinese hit us on those narrow Mountain roads. My friend Peter was shot in the fore head, And ran about 100Feet yelled John I'm hit,Then fell at my feet.I rolled him over, And he had a bullet hole in his fore head. By the time the blood reached the tip of his nose, It had froze in little steps.I carried him to the E-Vac truck, And had to shoot my way both ways. Once I climb into my quad fifties, And opened fire, The Chinese quickly quit and ran off.The next evening on this frozen Mt. top I had two men from the infantry unit that was with me imn Huksu-Ri.Then on to the Chosin, To help the Marines, And back to Hungnam.Unloaded th men I carried back to Hungnam, And was sent to North West Hamhung to pull rear guard, Until the ships were loaded.

Comments: Hi,

I'm looking for anyone who might have served with a Sergeant Willis Otto in Korea. I believe he may have been with the 7th. All I know is that he served at Ford Ord for a good amount of time. The only other clue that I can think of that could possibly help jog someones memory is that he was married to a japanese-american woman named Mary.

Thank You,

Eric Otto
