from California to Japan on the Bon Homme Richard. Apparently the ship developed an engine
problem and we were on board for 30 days. In my
20 yrs of active service this was one of my most
memorable experiences. I was just a passenger
but I volunteered for any duty on board to keep

Comments: In regards to a message by Keith Anderson that his great uncle was Orville M. Cook I'm writing to let Mr. Anderson know that my grandfather was his gunner in WWII off the USS LEXINGTON. My grandfather Theodore H. "POP" LeMieux was awarded the Dist/Flying Cross and an Air Medal and Ensign Cook was awarded the Navy Cross for their actions in the "Mission Beyond Darkness" a battle on June 19, 1944 in the Philippines. My grandfather was 43 years old and had just enlisted and Ensign Cook was 22 years old. The full story can be found on the internet under the Lexington's battles
