Comments: My father, Cletus (Zuke) Zimmerman is now 83 years old with many memory problems. He keeps waking up at times thinking he is in his berth with alarms sounding! He really hasn't told me much of his career in the navy aside that he enlisted in 1947 and retired in 1966. He was in the Korean war and start of the Vietnam war. He has mentioned being stationed a lot in Hawaii. He has told me he was aboard the USS Rendova and USS Point Cruz. He also has told me his home port was in San Diego, CA. Operation Ivy is a possibility of his service on USS Rendova. Operation Platform may have been something he was apart of on USS Point Cruz, not sure however! I've looked through old belongings of his trying to find medals or stripes, pictures... anything really and have found slim to none. I am really wanting to know basic information, such as what class Petty Officer was he? What medals did he earn? What was his basic life/job like upon the carriers? How heavy was the combat in the Korean war for these two carriers? Stuff like that... I'm wanting to do this not only to help my father come to face with reality of today but, also.. get in touch with my father's life before I was born. I'm hoping once I find a little information, I could perhaps calm his inner nerves where he doesn't wake up in a panic! If you have any information, know my father, served with him ect, please email me, phone or snail mail me!!!

My dad attended the last 2 reunions with his shipmates. The last reunion was in Pensacola, Fl. in 2001. When my dad attended this reunion, he purchased a corkscrew willow cane. About 1 week after purchasing this cane, he had a stroke. This cane was such a blessing. Also my dad HAD a hat from these reunion's, and it had little pins on it , which had something to do with these reunions with his shipmates.
About 2 months ago, my dad went to visit my brother in Tucson, AZ. Upon getting off the plane, his hat flew away, and that was the end of the hat.
Does anyone know if I can purchase one of these hats and replace it for my dad. He is still upset about losing the hat. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated on where I could obtain another hat. It was dark blue.
Thanks again,
Daughter of an American Veteran.
