Comments: To all Vets Thank You For Your Service!
I am a Villages Honor Flight Guardian who will escort George Stolworthy on his flight to Washington D.C. on May 24, 2017. George served on CVA-33 during the West Pac Cruise 1953 - 54. George was attached to the VC-3 Squadron of Carrier Air Group 11. George was an Airman metal smith and plane captain. During this time period George lived in Seaford, New York. I am in the process of putting together any and all information I can find related to his service to create a book to present him after the flight.
So if anyone out there knew George or can give me any leads to relevant information please respond by email to jtaffuri@gmail.com. Any help, messages from shipmates or words of encouragement for George will be deeply appreciated. Thank you and God bless you.

Comments: My father, Robert Bob Lien served on the Kearsage sometime between 1947-1950. Bob was from Milwaukee, WI and was an aviation structural mechanic on this ship with attack squadron 94. I'm putting together a history of my father's naval history and any information would be greatly appreciated.
Keywords: He said he spent time in the Mediterranean, and especially enjoyed Greece, but he never spoke that much about his time on the ships. He loved to swim, and got to fly in a couple of the fighter jets. He told us a story about wolfing down his lunch before flying, which included lima beans. Unfortunately, he got sick while the pilot was having fun flipping the plane around, and had to clean the inside when they landed - he never ate lima beans again in his life!

I am writing his life history and I am looking for anyone who may have known him or can furnish me with any details about the cruise and what life for an enlisted man was like on the Kearsarge. The only information I have states he was stationed aboard the Kearsarge, flagship of commander carrier division 6. My guess is his rank was S1 and probably worked in aircraft maintenance. He later worked as an aviation mechanic while stationed in Salt Lake, Long Beach, Alameda, and in Illinois. Any information you can provide me with will be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I am the daughter of Robert "Bob" Corder who was aboard the USS Kearsarge during it's 1953-1954 cruise in support of the Korean war. My dad was a chaplain aboard the ship. I recall many stories of his time aboard such as; the ship pulled into port on the day that the US signed the treaty and never had to fire a shot. His version of the story is that "the enemy knew the Texans had come to town and surrended." :)
Also, the ship was a victim of a typhoon which bent it in the middle but the old girl was still seaworthy and the movie Caine Mutiny was also filmed aboard the ship while my dad was stationed on it. He was nearly court martialed for refusing to lift Lauren Bacall into the plane because it would cause him to look up her skirt. LOL. There are more, I'm sure!
My father suffered a stroke two years ago and sadly, his memory is going. I am looking for anyone that might have known him, or served with him or can let my family in on stories from the ship! There are so many things I wished I'd ask him when I was younger. Please reach out to me if you can! Thank you in advance!
