Comments: Looking for anyone who might have known my uncle Jim Albert. I know he was in the 8th Cav from July or August 1950 -June 1951. He originally deployed to Korea with the 29th RCT and then joined the 1st Cav Div. I have a copy of his DD 214 and it says he was awarded the Combat Infantrymans Badge with the 8th Cav. It was his second award; 1st award was with the 63rd Div in WWII.

The remaining siblings who are living are Warren H.Bowser of Brandenton,FL, Emma
Jean Smith of Indiana,Pa and Paul R. Bowser of Danville,PA
Many of our family will be traveling to Washington,DC this week end, April 30 -
May 1, 2004 for the annual government briefing on the Korean War. We will have a
one on one with a casualty officer in hopes of gaining more information about
Roland's service and death. My brother Paul and I have been contacted RE: our DNA
and have had our blood sample taken. The thoughts of actually having Roland's
remains found seem inconceivable. We are very grateful for the effort of our
government to locate his remains. I believe I speak for our family when I say
that although we lost our brother we will be united with him someday. We believe
in the absolute authority and truth of God's Word which states to be absent from
the body is to be present with the Lord. Since I do not remember him I am really
looking forward to meeting him someday. I have been told my oldest so Robert
looks very much like him.I would love to hear from any vetern who may have known
Roland or a friend he may have grown up with

Comments: Does anyone remember seeing a tall, skinny kid, still in his teens, dirty and needing a shave. He was the last of his co. after a battle. It would have been 1950 probably. He would be seen for a while and then he'd leave and go "scouting" the front lines, never really belonging anywhere until he was wounded and ended up at a mash unit and help drive an ambulance until he was sent home in 1951. I think it was in the Pusan area.

Comments: After reading the History of the Battle of UNSON I can understand the difficulty in obtaining information. The actions taken that day make me greave even today but at the same time very very proud to be an AMERICAN!! I have gotten some information from my Mother re: Cpl. Roger Weaver, my Uncle. During retreating actions and under heavy bombardment my Uncle went missing. The army sent a telegram stating only that he was missing and was later declared "Dead while missing". We have never received any official information beyond that. My Mother and her sisters have each donated DNA to the I. D. Lab in hopes of the remains being found for repatriation or evidence to support his death. The story we received from "Fred Keyes" a buddy and hometown resident who was in the same action and was later captured and repatriated is as follows.
While crossing the "River, the Company Commander or Platoon leader "Capt. ?" took a hit. My Uncle went back to aid and retrieve the Capt. Upon reaching him, a shell hit and neither was seen or heard from again. My questions deal with those events. If anyone remembers this, please let me know. Which River? he Nammyon? or the Samfon? Was the crossing at a bridge or was it a ford? About where?. Might anyone remember the Capt.'s name?
I also understand the unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, The ROK Presidential Unit Citation, and The Greek Gold Medal of Bravery. for the actions of the 2nd of NOV 1950. My Uncle did not receive these medals. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the ROK Service Medal and the UN Service Medal. Can anyone tell me if he would be entitled to these?
Thank you to all the men who fought in that battle. Your Courage and fortitude in the face of such overwhelming odds is to be heralded.

Comments: My Uncle was 1st. Lt. Herbert L Jordan. He was platoon leader for Co. L on Sept. 18, 1950. He was killed in battle that day. I am having trouble finding information of the battle to take Hill 312. If anyone out there knows this information I would appreciate you e-mailing me. My father was Capt. Willie Jordan who was Com. Co of 'B' company, 23rd Infantry and fought the Battles of the Punch Bowl, Bloody Ridge and Heartbreak Ridge in 1951. He was awarded two silver stars, two purple hearts and several other decorations. He also served in Saipan and Okinawa in WWII where he was awarded the bronze star and others. He retired a vet of WWII, Korea and Vietnam, now resting in Arlington Cem. with is kid brother Lt. Jordan (who also won the Silver Star that day for his gallantry) and my grandfather Col H Jordan who was a vet of WWI and WWII (awarded the bronze star and others). I have gathered information around all their battles, but am having troubles finding some on exactly HILL 312. thanks to anyone who could assist.
