Our get together was GREAT. We had 15 from Hq. Co. & 2 from Easy Co.
They started comming in on Wed. & the last one left on Monday morning.
All the guys had pictures they brought, One has several of the 45th News
that everyone enjoyed. As you know this was put together in about 60
days. We had very little planned but it could not have turned out better.
We had invited Col. Hillman, our 2nd Bn CO. to come but due to his
wife's health could not come at the time but sent a leetter to his boys.
Several have since called him and we hope he can be with us next year
when we meet in Eunice LA.
We had people from FL--GA--LA--AR--WI--NY--IL--W V. Our meeting room was
open from 8:30 in the morning till the last ones closed at 10:30 or 11:00
at night. We could have gone on for several more days. To many things
happened to put it all here but will give you a couple of them.
One of the boys had borrowed some money from another in the group but
neither could remember how much after 46 years---They agreed on 20.00.
When Milton Courville came in the first thing he said to me was where is
my dog tag? I told him I did not know what he was talking about. Seems
we had each given the other one of our dog tags to give Grave Reg.
hell in knowing who was killed if one of us got the big one. After 46
years I have mine back, can't remember what happened to Milton's.
Have heard from all that were there and all plan to be in Eunice next
year.
Take care and keep in touch.

TO: Any members of 279 Inf Regt who are knowledgeable of the combat
action of 4 July 1952 wherein 23 members of the 279 were KIA including
my high school buddy of 1950, Donald D. Shaw.
Of the 174 soldiers of the 279th who were KIA during the Korean War,
these 23 represent the greatest single day KIA total for the 279th. I am
very interested to find out background and rationale for this action.
Especially I am interested in unit of assignment and the circumstances &
particulars surrounding the death of Don Shaw. I would appreciate any
information concerning the death of these 23 men, especially because
truce talks were well underway by the date of their deaths.

I am searching for information on my father, Fred Antosh. He served in
Korea and was sent through the Oklahoma National Guard to Korea and
arrived in December 29 (?) , 1951.
My father was not one to tell us about his time in Korea. I do know
from paperwork I received from the military that he received a CIB for
his service in Korea. He did tell me before he passed away that he was
a machine gunner and that most of his platoon had been "wiped" out in a
battle.
If anyone could tell me information relating to my dad or this battle,
my family will be grateful.

I served in the 279th hdqtrs unit 1952,1953 before and after the dmz
decision.
My most vivid memory is when we were in reserve five miles from
Heartbreak and the artillery caught hell one afternoon.
I guess I was young and stupid not to duck and I watched the shells
land on the position where the guns were positioned. We heard it was a
mess. Over forty years later; it still is a very clear picture.

Is there a list of all active service personnel that was in the 45th
division 279th infantry, company I? I am searching for two men (Donald
Schimmer and Paul Listro) that were in the same company of that of a
friend (Louis Pline.)
They were in a battle on Old Baldy July 3-4, 1952. Louis was seriously
wounded in the battle and assumed that his friends were KIA, but they
are not on any MIA, POW, WIA or KIA list. If you can provide any
information as to where to search (or if they are deceased) it would be
greatly appreciated.
