He served on the Valley Fordge in the early 50's, he said he got a "Well done". from the CO for navigating through a Hurricane. He never did talk to me about his service much, but I really want to know what he was like when he was there. He lived in Philadelphia and married Rose Marie in 1953 or '54. I don't know what he did on board because he never talked to me long enough about it. Please help me know this part of my Dad that I never knew.

Forge from its commissioning until early 1948. He has
pictures of the ship going through the Panama Canal. He
told me a story that I have always remembered. He says
that two marines on guard duty outside the captain's
quarters got into a "quick draw" contest one day and that
one of the marines was killed when the other one accidently
pulled the trigger. If anyone knew my dad (he's from Texas)

The brochure is soliciting all former crew members to write a short biography and a memorable moment in their stint in the navy. The brochure explains everything. Comments: my father served aboard the "valley" on it's
third cruise to korea (1951-1952). i am posting this in his memory. he passed away in late aug.
of 1999. he always would talk about his time in the navy, including his role in the occupation of japan after ww2 and korea. if anyone is interested
i have in my fathers book of his time on the
"valley" as he would say. this book contains many
photos including a hist. of the third cruise, as well as a full roster of crew and photos of crew.
