Comments: As I look back on those years of 1954 thru, perhaps, 1957 - - - the work we did and the hours we worked on the flightdeck - - for the pay we received - - - well, we were some pretty terrific group of young men, and we should be proud of the fine job we did. I am very proud to have served with all those young men of V-1 Div., on the flightdeck of the USS Oriskany. She was called the Mighty 'O' for a reason. I believe that we became who we are today during those years.

I was surrounded by and lived with good young men that I have never forgotten. After the navy I took the discipline I learned on the flightdeck
and entered college and graduated with a degree which translated into a career in law enforcement and 35 years in private business.
Like you, I miss my youth and I miss those that I served with aboard Oriskany. We were young, we were eager and we did an important job.
I'm pleased to be contacted by any of my fellow shipmates.

He was the guy standing behind the situation board writing backwards for the officers to read. If anyone remembers him I would love to hear your stories. My dad was born in, lived his life in, and recently died in Beaumont, Texas (the Oriskany's current home). I live on the Emerald Coast (panhandle) of Florida. A front runner for the Oriskany's final resting place as an artificial reef. Funny how these things all weave together.

Then three games per day when we would hit port in Japan after 30 days in Korea. No such thing as a "basketball season", as we played whenever we could.
