Comments: CSM Plass, My application for renewal of membership in the 29th Regimental Assn. is in the mail, registered, return receipt requested. Strongly urge you process this application forthwith. I am fully eligible under the Constitution and By Laws. I must also urge you resign your position as President of the Association. Your lies about the time served with the 29th are being distributed to all officers and members that I have the address for. Your first assignment as posted on your Form 20 to the 29th Inf. RCT took place 11 June 1966. I legally have your Form 20's in my posession, they are being forwarded to all of the above. Your statement that I have done nothing for the regiment is totally false. I led the Bn. on our night march out from Annui. I even have a letter from you acknowledging it, as something you heard. A considerable number of us will be at Ft. Benning to confront you with the facts. I also have a letter from National Records Center that will in a court of law uphold an allegation that you tampered with your records when you were a personnel staff NCO, or custodian of records, whatever you want to call it. As suggested before, resign your position and save yourself further embarassment.

Comments: All Korean War Veterans of the 29th inf should be concerned about this. The 29Th inf Regt Association has a President who claims to be a Veteran of the 29th during the Korean War. His claim is that he was with HQ Co. Heavy Mortars, and went to Korea with the BN. in July 1950. He further claims that he observed a heroic action of a medical NCO, and wrote a citation for the purpose of a Medal for this indivudal. It would have been imposible for this claim to be true, since CSM Plass was at Fort Devans Mass. at the time. Acording to his Form 20, he didn't arrive in Korea until 30 August 1950. The 29th Inf arrived in Korea in July 1950.
On August 1st, Frank Plass was still at Ft Devens Mass. as First SGT. of Co C 7th Inf Regt. He went to Korea with CO L 8th Cav Regt, so he was never a member of the 29 Inf in Korea as he claims.
He has been confronted with this information by members who were with the 29 Th in Korea, but he refuses to admit the truth. He has gone as far as refusing membership to members into the association who were with the 29Th in Korea.
I am at presant a member of the 29th, and have submitted my dues for renewal, I intend to be at the reunion in Sept. I sugest all members of the 29Th association confront CSM Frank Plass with his claim , and question his reason for false claims.
I think all of the 29TH Korean Veterans have a right to know the truth.

Comments: Hello,
Looking at your site gave me a great deal of thinking. I was in the Mess at the Post Stockade at Rycom, on Okinawa on June 25th, 1950. The first shirt asked me if I had cleared yet and wanted my clearance papers. I gave them to him and he put them in what he called the "circular file". and said that there was some problem in Korea and that all rotations would be halted for a while. Shortly after that I was on orders to go to the 29th along with others of our unit. Upon further checking it was found that they would not need all of us as it was to be a very short thing and so I and some of my partners were sent back to units. Not long after that we learned the rumored whole story of what actually happened to the 29th. The unit had a good reputation on the island and has through the years.
Thanks for the work done on the site.

I am in possession of his Purple Heart Medal and certficate (issued on 1 November 1951) along with a memorial citation signed by President Truman.
In searching the web, Johnny was listed as MIA to KIA in the area near Hadong on 27 July 1950. I am assuming he was caught in the ambush.
Johnny had no other family and I don't want his name or brave sacrifice to be forgotten. The military will not provide me any other information because I am not a direct relative. My mothers family have all passed away. If anyone can provide me further information on the circumstances regarding Johnny's service and death, or even where his remains are located (I was told it was Arlington, but can't seem to find any reference), I would greatly appreciate it.

We are searching for anyone who might have known Wayne N. Shields. Like so many, who were killed in Korea, the family has little or no informaiton on him. The casket that was returned to his family was closed and they were told they could not open it and that his dog tags inside. As near as we can determine, there were no papers, personal belongings, etc.
There is still a void and an uncertainty in our minds as to what really happend to Wayne. He will always be missed but it would be helpful if we could feel that we know the truth about his final days, hours or minutes.
His death date is listed, also like so many, as 27 July 1950. We do not know exactly where. From what I have read on this website, it seems as though it might have been Anui or Hondong but that is just a guess.

A newspaper article written in the 50's shortly after Eugene Tamplin's parents had been notified that he had been KIA, says that his last letter home was from Okinawa. It was dated July 17 and he wrote that he was getting ready to be shipped to Korea.
I really enjoyed talking with you this evening. You shed a lot of light on the subject. Now, from reading old clippings I am confident that Dale did separate that that he was callled back in when the National Guard was called up.

Comments: I am looking for anyone who served with my uncle, CLARENCE HAROLD THOMPSON, Pvt, Co. E, 29th Infantry Regiment. Uncle Harold was sent straight to Okinawa in June/July 1950 after basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky.
He was then assigned to Co. E, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division in Korea. Harold was Killed in Action on September 5, 1950 at the "Walled City" of Kasan.
I would really like to talk to anyone who served with him or was in his unit to learn more about what he faced in battle.
GOD BLESS YOU BRAVE MEN.
