Comments: Looking for anyone who knows information about my father Sgt. Jesse James Dennison. He was in 29th - 2nd Armory Div.
Served between 1950 - 1959
He was stationed at
Ft. Knox, KY
Baumholder, Germany
Ft. Lewis, Wa.
Dad was in an officers club and got into an altercation with a couple of MPs. He pulled his tank through the window and demanded they slide beer to him through the barrel. They did but MPs put a gun to his head and forced him out of it. He was discharged for an uncontrollable temper due to his combat in Korea. (sound familiar?)
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Comments: My father NEVER spoke about his experience in the war. The article in the VFW magazine about Hadong changed that. Dad told me that it was absolute hell. He was riding in a troop transport truck and propelled himself backwards over the side after the truck was raked with automatic weapons fire. He said that he and a few others around him returned fire to the best of their ability until they were being overwhelmed. After realizing that those being captured were also being executed, my dad explained that he was not ashamed to be "shot in the ass" as he advanced in the direction of freedom. Dad was also in the "Pusan Perimeter" and told me that he and another soldier from Thibodaux, Louisiana bought a boat from a Korean and planned to sail it to Japan if the worst happened. My father passed away in July of 2001. I am very proud of him

All he's told us is that it was cold and you had to dig a frozen hole to use the bathroom and then cover it up. It was a cold, cold place.

John "Corn Cob 6" Hughes, Who commanded Company B, 29th Inf. Regiment, and later company K, 35 Inf., Passed away quietly in his sleep, early on the morning of Jan 20th 2002. For those of you who remember him he was "Corn Cob 6" right to the end. In the last days of his life he spoke to me often about his service in Korea. He never bragged about his actions, and he never stopped bragging about his men.
The accomplishments of the men of Company B are well documented. I would just like to say that Company B, 29th Infantry Regiment, is one of only 2 company's in the history of the U.S. Army to receive the presidential unit citation. This award is for collective achievement above and beyond the call. It is not normally awarded to such small units as a company. The men of company B earned this significant award by single handily stopping the assault of an entire North Korean Regiment. This was the caliber of the men my father served with, they were the source of his pride. God bless the 29th Inf. Regiment.

Comments: I was assigned to the 44th Inf Filipino Scouts in late 1948 at Nupunja. Later became 29th Inf. At the start of the Korean War the Reg was under eqipped and under trained. We were ordered to Korea but had to strip all units to provide troops and equipment for the 2 battlions that went to Korea. The plan was to build up another battalion which would go later with the Hq and fight as a unit. As you know they were thrown into combat and decimated. I had many friends in that action ,but find it difficult to find out what happened and who may have survived as a POW.I was Ex Off with Hq Co of the 29th and stayed on Okinawa for two more years during which we reconstituted the 29th. I made the Army career and retired in 1972 as a LTC. I have quite a few stories to relate about those days if anyone is interested.

Comments: My father Frank Dierauf was with the 29th in Okinawa when they shipped out in July. I believe that he was either a platoon or company CO during this time. He never really spoke about his wartime experiences, and I am looking for any rememberances of him during this (or any other) time. Thanks

Comments: To anyone who can assist;
My father Kevin Oldham Thoms was wounded on 28 Jul 1950 at Chinju. He was attached to the 29th RCT. We were talking over the weekend and he began to recount the story of the "Massacre at Hadong" and I am interested in finding out more about it. Looking for places (books, articles, websites etc.) to do research. I am a former Marine and have been to some of the same places in South Korea as my father. This seems to be a story not recounted very often. Help!

Comments: The loss of the 29th Infantry Regiment was the second worst battle and loss of a US Army unit in Korea. My reason for this message is that there has been little or no information printed in reference to this units massacrer at Chinju Korea on July 27th 1950.
If this battle is researched you can find factual reference material in the book "Fighting on The Brink" defense of the Puson perimeter, By Uzel Ent Brig Gen. Ret. Also in the June/July issue of the VFW magazine there is a brief notice in the Chronology on page 13 and page 18 of the magazine.
I beleive that this units demise should be covered in the Korean War projects web page as it should be seen by all that is interested in the history of the Korean War. The Stars and Stripes printed a article in it's last issue in reference to this battle and the loss of the Regiment.
Thank You for yopur consideratio.
