Comments: My father Marc Schulte passed away November 13, 2009 from Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). For years I have wondered if more of the people that served with him were affected by th728th MP BN (C Company)s. Before he passed away he insisted that bile duct cancer as a result of liver flukes was much more common in Southeast Asian countries, including South Korea.

As the anniversary of his passing approaches I'm hoping I can do more this year to continue his research for him. He was in Pusan in 1976 (with a year or so more 1975-77) and served in the 728th MP BN (C Company).

Comments: I arrived in Korea from Ft. Bragg, C Company (121st MP Co.), 503rd MP Bn, in early January 1971, for a 13-month tour in-country, and spent the first week at ASCOM Depot with A Company (bunked in the CID hooch). Was transferred by LTC Willis Smith, CO, 728th MP Bn, to C Company at Camp Tracy (with CPT Cobb, 1LT Herrera, 1LT Gonzalez, 1LT Neeley, 2LT Scanio), where I served as a PLTN LDR (3rd Platoon), later as Physical Security Officer and Customs Clearance Officer at the Yongsan PMO (MAJ Harrison was the Yongsan Post Provost Marshal), and later yet, as Company XO under CPT Grady Lowry (an Infantry officer who had become Company CO after CPT Cobb DROS'd). LTC Smith was replaced as Battalion CO by LTC Nowak, and an unannounced inspection of the Company area by General John Michaelis, CINC, 8th Army/USFK/United Nations and Major General Joe Pezdirtz, CO, KORSCOM, caused a few heads to roll, including the Mess Sergeant and the Motor Sergeant. Promoted to CPT in early October, about the time the Company moved from Camp Tracy to Camp Coiner on North Post (I had been home in the States in September on 30-days leave for the birth of my first son), after the major alert and shootout on the MSR Southwest of the 1st Han River bridge in August. Remained as Company XO, and CPT Robert Hall took over as Company CO. Left country and DROS'd with an early-out in mid-December 1971. SGT Navarro drove me down to Osan AFB for the flight home. Would like to hear from any of those who served in C Company or at the PMO with me. I see where Harvey Stewart and Jeff Thomas have previously posted on this site.

Comments: It was almost 40-years ago that I was stationed as the Military Police - Desk Clerk at Camp Humphrey, South Korea. I guess when they found out that I could type at a speed of 65-70 wpm as an 18-year old, the Desk Sergeant figured I was his corner-stone.

A lot has passed between those years and now, I worked as a Lifeguard on the Southern California Beaches; worked as a young Firefighter and E.M.T. on the Department's Ambulance in the town where I grew up and later worked as a Supervising State Park Ranger in California for the remainder of my Public Safety Service.

Now I'm retired and enjoying life just as much as I did then. If you were in Camp Humphrey during 1974-1975 or what to chat through emails...let me hear from you.
