Korea - they were on a troop ship (Joe Martinez) in
Hawaii (shore leave from the far east) - a fight
broke out, and well, John J Galkowski passed away.
He officially died of natural causes of a cerebral
hemorhage. 1 April 1952 in Honolulu.

I am his great niece. I would just like to hear some
stories and know more about Uncle Johnny than just
his 'numbers' -> 1916-1952.

Comments: I've recently discovered a treasure trove of color slides taken by my father
Frank C. Ely during his service in 1955 in Korea. He has written the names
of people and places on some of them. The collection includes photos
from Korea and Tokyo, his transport plane from Japan to Korea, etc. I
want to share these images with anyone who is interested. Like many of
you have said, he never talked about his service. Especially looking for

Comments: I recently purchased an unusual helmet on ebay. I am very interested in artifacts from the Korean War. This helmet is beautifully marked with red/white stripe, a decal of the unit, the numbers of the unit and the large letters "MP" on the front. A bullet has struck the front, but indented deeply only (not penetrating). I was wondering what the circumstances might have been for being struck by an enemby bullet. Comments: Amazed that over the years, Company C has responded with so much interst. Suggests the type of unit is was. Have the colors been retired? We also had our "Lt." Pete, who was the mascot that had at one time, to hide in a duffle bag when ordered to get rid of him. He was from up North. He was a fine boy and at least once had his mouth washed with soap for using a GI word or two. He cried when he was "busted" in company formation. Punishment. Fine one! Last heard of, South Vietnam. Fine boy. Where is he now? Where is Preston from Mississippi. Fine pecans from wife, drank out Aqua Velva, so we changed to Old Spice. More another time. Write. Fx 785 749 2688.

Bn. assistant commander had committed suicide in France. Caught again. Cpl Whal, Canadian was commo. chief at Wontong Ni Where is he? Functions at Wontong ni were patrols across the river, up into the village up there. Had been by passed by the 11th ROC Div. N. Korean worked in the defile going to Wonsan area on the coast. Two M8 aromored cars used to repond to attacks on convoys in the defile. A lot of night activity in the defile at night.
