Comments: I arrived in BK in May of 64 and was immediately tagged with with the nickname Weed by Jim Farnham. Went to jump school in Weisbaden July '64...all that for an extra $55.00 a month. Spent about a year in Mannheim before returning to BK and was discharged in Dec of '66. Remember many games of hearts with Drinkwater, Farnham and Fry... TDY trips in the Honor Guard to Metz France, Eindhovan Holland, Brussels Belgium, etc. The siren in the middle of the night for our monthly alert... one time it was on the 31st of the month and again the very next day!!!! My wife and I are planning to attend the reunion in Branson in Oct of 2016. Anyone else from our era?

Comments: My father was in the Korean War and I just recently learned that he was with the 8th Infantry according to his patch in a picture. He was a MP and I want to gather more information on his time there. He was injured there and received shrapnel to the legs and was treated in Japan. I remember that he was still in the military when the Vietnam War started and he got out as he has already been to Korea and did not want to return overseas. He did not talk much about his time there but I remember that he mentioned that alot of soldiers could not read/write so he read their letters from home to them and even helped write letters back.

Comments: In early 1978 I was TDY with the 8th MP Company from 8th Support Group 500th MP Det in Camp Darby Italy. I spent a few days in Bad Kreuznack then was sent to the platoon in Mannheim, the highlight of the trip was going to Graf. to work with the 536th MP Company.
I was still very new in the Army at the time so it was some , heady, exciting and confusing time

Comments: Greetings. I am writing a book that includes discussion of General Ridgway's 21 Jan 51 memorandum/order entitled "Why We Are Here." The general excerpts this memo in both of his books: In "Solider: The Memoirs of Matthew B. Ridgway, pages 207-08; and in "The Korean War," pages 264-65. But neither version (which are identical to one another) reflect the length and precise language of the original, which was first distributed to his commanders, then down the chain of command. Might anyone reading have a copy of the original memo in a scrapbook?
