Comments: My Grandfather John (Jack) Carlson served with the 555th at Kojido Prison in Korea. He is still living and I see him nearly every day. If anyone who served with him there I would love to hear from you. I'm gathering information for my family history and would love to hear any stories that anyone may have about him.
Thanks,
Christy Weaver

Comments: I have come across a Korean War Photo Album Scrapbook and thought of selling it on Ebay. Did some research and found this website and was wondering if anyone is interested in it. Has some pictures of named persons and many of the other views of the base I assume. One little photo reads, all of the 555th. Others of the prisoner areas etc.
Email if you would be interested in it or bidding on Ebay and will let you know about it.

Comments: WHILE ON KOJIDO I WAS IN CHARGE OF THE ELECTRIC POWER. THE RHYTHM OF THE GENERATORS ROCKED US TO SLEEP EACH NIGHT AND AWOKE ME WHEN THEY QUIT ROCKING! I WAS A DETAINEE FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS WHILE SERVING AS ESCORT GUARD FOR SICK AND WOUNDED PRISONERS BEFORE I RETURNED TO KOJI ON AN LST. I REMEMBER GIVING NEW SHOES, NEW CLOTHES, SHAVE AND RAZORS, TOOTHBRUSHES AND SUPPLIES AND THEY TOOK THE RAZORS AND CUT OFF THE CANVAS TOPS OF OUR NEW TRUCKS. THE PRISONERS TOOK OFF THEIR LEFT BOOTS AND THREW THEM IN THE BAY TO MAKE IT APPEAR WE HAD HARRASSED THEM BY GIVING THEM ONLY ONE SHOE. I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM MY FELLOW SOLDIERS. I RECALL FONDLY MY COOK, ROGER. AN AMERICAN SOLDIER BY ACCIDENT SHOT AND KILLED ROGER. A SOLDIER NAMED SPENCE TOOK HIM TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE HE DIED.

Comments: After finishing duty on Heart Break Ridge, the 23rd. Infantry, 2nd. Div. was sent to Koji in either Nov. or Dec. 1951. We received our replacements while on Koji, and were sent back north about Christmas, 1951 We worked the prisoners, and while there, we saw a prisoner we had taken on Heart Break. He was educated in the US.
