Comments: I am looking for anyone who served with Bobby (Bob) Hampton from Edinburg, TX. All of his military records, awards/citations and most of his memorabilia have been lost over the years, and I am trying to help him recreate as much of his Korean record as possible, and reconnect with anyone who may have known him then.
Bobby enlisted in Edinburg, was sworn in at Corpus Christi, TX and did basic at Ft. Riley before deploying to Japan for amphibious training at Camp McGill. He was wounded twice, once (I think) during the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter (treated in the field), and again on 2 November 1950 at Unsan (I believe). At that time, he was a PFC, evacuated to a hospital ship, probably the USS Haven until returned to duty in March 1951. At some point, he received a battlefield promotion to SGT as all but a couple of men in his immediate unit had been killed, and he was charged with 42 ROK soldiers. He was awarded the Purple Heart , but we also believe paperwork was submitted for a Bronze Star and possibly a marksmanship badge/recognition, neither of which he received.
Now, Bobby is 83 and as a family friend, I'd like to do as much as I can to help him. One of his best buddies was a trooper called Slim, unfortunately, Bobby doesn't recall his full name or where he was from, but maybe that name will sound familiar to a reader here. Separately, he signed up in Edinburg with a man named Sammy Evans; I have no idea if he was assigned to the 1st Cav/5th Reg or not.
I would greatly appreciate any information or contacts through this email, or through another post. I will update this posting as I uncover any other pertinent information.
For those of you who served during the Korean War, and for the families whose soldier/sailor/airman/marine, a simple thank you just doesn't say enough for what you gave to our great Nation.
With gratitude,
Laurie Gibson

Since then I have received some photos and more information about his service from

KY. Anyone knowing more about this 5th RCT regiment or info please contact me.
I have a few questions, one, I cannot find out what rank he was and verify for sure
the stories he told of being the regiment historian, but I do know he took loads of
photos, and had some as I grew up. He was on the front lines during 2 mo's time near
Kumsong in heavy battle. I would like to post some of the photos as memories of his
time that winter. He is shown with a Tank # TK-74 J-I.
Thanks.

Comments: I am Angela DeLeonardis - My Grandmother's brother was Joseph A Lambert, nicknamed Gig. He was killed in action on October 7, 1951 in the area of Chorwon. Did anyone know him? I would love to hear from anyone who knew him or if anyone has any photos from around that time and that area. I have searched online and there are just too many photos and most of them don't say places/dates.
