Comments: Further reading tells me that the 507 AAA Det X
was sent to Suwan, Korea by the 8th Army orders & was not part of KMAG. I also believe this National Archives film by Fosnaught mislabels the quad 50 cal machine gun at Suwan as a Korean operated weapon. I believe that it is actually this 507th AAA Det X, but kind of hard to tell. So, did the ROK army actually have one of these quad 50 caliber machine guns mounted as this one is? Maybe the records when the ROK ordered more ammo from Toyko will shed light on it?

During my last 3 months in 1956 i served as acting Battery commander, while he was on leave. At that time in our field exercises we scored we scored highest in the far east. As I enter my 90,s the memories fade, but the times and men who served with me will always remain constant.

Army records show he had MOS of 1602 (gunner) and was in B Btry, 78th AAA Gun Battalion from 1 Sep 51 to 24 Jan 52. After a brief hospitalization, he was in Btry C, 32nd (typo?) The question is: Were any of these units engaged in combat during these periods? Were any of them shelled? If you were there and your answer is yes, please call or email me. I will put your recollections into affidavit form for your signature and notarization. The affidavit will then be filed in Marvin's VA claim. Thanks for any assistance.

Don't remember much of the other soldiers names but do remember that all (about 35 men) were volunteers before UN action began. We were from several different batteries of the 507th aaa bn defending Suwon and did so admirably for a few days. North Korean army easily broke thru and began encircling us. Thus we began withdrawing to the south and extracted via USAF plane to return to Ashiya for rearming and returned to Korea immediatly to Pusan via boat. From there we headed north again via train. I was a Cpl at the time and a field medic.

Comments: "When volunteers were called for to proceed to Korea to operate M-55 machine guns in defense of the airstrip at Suwon, Corporal Todd ofered his services. On 29 and 30 June 1950, the airstrip was subjected to repeated bombing and strafing attacks from YAK fighters of the North Korean forces and direct attacks were made on gun positions. Corporal Todd, at great risk to his life, remained at his post during these attacks and destroyed, crippled, or drove off the enemy planes, thus making the airstrip operational for the entire period of its use by American forces in support of the South Korean Army. As a result of his actions, along with those of the other members of Detachment Xray, two (2) enemy planes were destroyed and at least three (3) others damaged. Corporal Todd's courage and devotion to duty are an inspiration to others, and reflect great credit on the military service.
