Comments: I would like ANY information anyone can share about Pvt. Leon Nelson (African American) he was in Battery D. He served from 53-55. I didn't know my father well--he's deceased now--and I'd like nothing more than to get to know him through any and everyone he met. I'm not looking for only good memories--but ANY memory. Thanking you in advance.

My grandfather passed away in 2015. . His name was Carl Nink and I think he served the same time as you. Around 54-56. Looking at pictures of his life and found so many incredible ones from that time. His gun was gun number two, sky hawk. He was firing for the 40th Antiaircraft artillery brigade riffle team in Okinawa. Specialist 3rd class. Thing he became Sargent towards end of time over there.
Some of the captions he wrote on pictures:
Tsuiki beach
C-12H (?) Globemaster - loading okie
Yokohomo- Jo San & myself
Me, skip, Denny, Kenneth
Our gun no 2 (giant gun bigger than truck size, says sky hawk on it)
40th AAA Brig. Rifle team
Tsuiki range
Homesick (then crossed out)
A.D.X. Drill battle alert -double time
Going to okie (plane ride over there)
Would love to fill in the gaps.

Comments: My uncle Louis J. Juliano was briefly stationed at
Camp Edwards base in Massachusetts during the Korean
War. He was a commissioned to the one of the 90MM
Anti-Aircraft unit, but was honorably discharged
after 6-8 months due to an eye problem.
Unfortunately, he does not recall during which year(s)
he was stationed and in which
Company/Division/Battalion he served. I'm looking
for anyone that may remember him and can provide any
information about his military service. His military
records can not be located.

Comments: I reached Japan in March 1950 and after attending an Army school in Etta Jima, Japan was assigned to a new outfit, the 8th Army Gun Battalion. I was one of the first 10 men assigend.
When the Korean War broke out we had less than 100 men in the Battalion. We was not combat ready, and they changed us to the 37th AAA, and assigned us to The Japan Longistical Command.
I was oridignally in D battery, and since we had so few men, we housed a lot of GIs sent from the states. I believe the troops were from Fort Bliss, Texas.
In 1951 I transfered to A battery, and in March 1952 I went to Korea. In Korea, I was assigned to A battery, 15th AAA, 7th Div.. I was on Half-Track #221 (Sick Call).
