Comments: The 24th AAA surrounded Pusan Harbor and the various supply depots there. I was initially assigned as a platoon leader in Btry A, then as exec later btry CO of Btry C later exec of Btry D.
Ended up as S-4 inthe fall of 1954. Great job for a 1st looey of 4 months. The batallion was deactivated in Dec of 1954. I turned every item of equipment in the 5 batteries and the meteorology section. The last morning report showed only Lt Col Hinman, me and the Sgt Major as present. All of the sites and buildings were turned over to the ROK. The US AAA was downsized at this time; other battalions were also deactivated as was the 55th AAA Brigade==its personnel became the 2d AA Group. I served as Group Asst S-4 at K-55 until May 1955.

Comments: This is on behalf of my wife. I need to find out some information for a poster and awards I want to frame. I need to know what the unit crest looks like, where he served, and if anyone remembers him. I also have information of lineage after 1955.
Her daddy was Gary Grow, from California. He was in D Battery. Her daddy died in April '78.
I see from some of the posts that the entire battalion was in the Iron Triangle in Mig Alley and in Pusan. Does anyone have a more pinpoint location for the battalion, or D Battery in particular? Please email me with a picture of the crest, so I can try to look for a crest to put in the mount. Also, if you have any pictures of him, please let me know so that I can
send money to you to get copies made, if possible.
Thank you very much on behalf of my brother-in-law and wife. They do not have much info.
Lastly, from my research it looks like the 24th was .... into the 24th AAA Missile Battalion (Nike-Ajax). Website is: http://ed-thelen.org/J-McGrath/N24.HTM
Take good care. If there is any question on researching units, please let me know. I am currently Active Duty and could help guide you to places to search. And also... Thank you all for serving during the War. I appreciate you and your sacrifice so very much. That's why I do what I do now - that's at least what I owe you all. Freedom isn't free.
God Bless You All,
Doel Baughman

"... the 24th AAA Gun Battalion was integrated (or maybe realigned) into the 24th AAA Missile Battalion..." The unit could have been realigned, reflagged, or inactivated. We use several different methods in the Army to close units.

Comments: Interested in vets of this time and what happened to unit after Jan '54. Anyone in WA state?
The 24th AAA Gun Bn was activated from a reserve unit sometime in 1951 or 1952 and was part of the 10th AAA Group in the 8th Army. I do not have details of the other AAA Battalions in the group but ours was assigned to the Pusan area and remained there at least until early 1954. I was Battery Clerk of A Btry from 9/52 to 2/54 and was discharged at E-5 rank.
