Comments: My father was a young LT in this unit, and when I was a young LT, he would tell me incredible stories about the firepower that these quad 50 cal half-tracks had. He told me a couple of stories about large groups of Chinese rushing towards them, and what a 50 cal bullet does when it hits a human body. The best story he told me was when he first arrived, he was brought to the battalion HQ camp. Tired after the long trip, he immediately went to bed. In the morning, he woke up and there was lots of activity. He asked what had happened, and apparently the site had been attacked that night while he was asleep. There was an enemy corpse about 50 feet away from his tent.

Having served myself, I have a ton of respect for what you all did there!

Comments: Dad was in Korea from Jan '51 to Nov '51, then rotated out on points. ALSO - all of you need to name the battery! Dad tells me there were 4 batteries in the 21st, A through D; each battery had 16 halftracks, and they were assigned to infantry company's in pairs, so they rarely saw other members of their respective battery. Thought this might help some of you looking for info.

He passed away in 1996 and I have been trying since then to find out where he served, what he did and who he served with. I've been told that he was assigned to the 21st AAA AW Battalion (SP), but I don't know what company or battery he might have served with. He was promoted to Captain and served in England before being asigned to Ft. Bliss TX which was his duty station when he retired. Comments: In March-April 1952 Du-Wayne Donithorne was carrying or had carried a message to Baker Battery from Hq Battery. He was captured by the North Koreans, kept and tortured in 2 or 3 different POW camps and then escaped naked while being taken to China, and walked back to the Allied lines traveling by night and holing up during the day. Do you know this man or his story?

He only told one man part of the story 3 years ago before he died in 2002. I am writing the story for his grandchildren as a surprise.

My phone toll free 866-832-8416 in Cave Junction, OR (SW corner of OR).

Hope you can help me or get me in touch with people who might have known Du-Wayne Donithorne. He then was the Message Center Chief of the HQs Battery, 21st AAA AW Bn., 25th Inf. Div. and left Korea early March 1953.
