Comments: I was amongst 40 draftees who were assymilated into the 213th in
March 1951 and trained at Camp Stewart until May when we returned
to Fort Dix. We continued training, painting and repairing equipment
until we went to Seattle, Washington. It took 5 days and 4 nights by
train. We were there for 5 days while processing for oversees. I think
we left on the 26th of October by way of Port of Whittier, Alaska with
4000 other soldiers and let off 800 guys there. We continued down
along the Aleutians on very rough seas. I can't recall the port we
came to in Japan, We let off all the guys but the 213th. We loaded
the next day with 4000 plus pipeline replacements and headed for
Pusan Korea. We were quartered in PAC area through Thanksgiving,
about 3-4 weeks. A Battery was placed on island outside of Pusan
Harbor. D Battery was placed out on a peninsula mountaintop
south-west of Pusan Harbor. I was mustered out as a Staff Seargent
on March 7th, 1953. I was one of the guys left on the hill when they
pulled out in May of 1952.
I have more information for anyone interested. Would like to connect
with anyone who remembers me as well.
