Comments: My father, Richard Harris, died on Nov 19th, 2012 at
age 80. He was a Korean War Vet, who trained in Ft.
Bliss Texas, in late 1952 and deployed to Korea
around January 1953. He was on a Half Track Quad .50
crew with the 15th AAA Battalion, attached to the 7th
INF Division. I am unsure which Battery he was with.
He was promoted to Sgt. after the cease fire. If
anyone knew of him or has any information, it would
be greatly appreciated by his family. Like most vets,
he didn't talk a great deal about his service.

Comments: Drafted in L. A. two days after my 21st birthday,in Feb 1951. Went to Fort Ord after induction and then to Camp Roberts for 16 weeks basic infantry training. Remember that during training we had a baby-faced 2nd Lieutenant who was spit and shine and was razzed continuously because all but one were draftees. Left Camp Stoneman, San francisco, in July and shipped to Japan. Somehow wound up in 1st Cavalry barracks in Tokyo where I was fortunately one of few assigned to Co. D Eta Jima Spec. School(Quarter Master School)which I understand was a former Japanese Naval Academy. From there to Korea sometime in Oct 1951. Joined Battery C 15th AAA as Supply Clerk and was there until April 1952 when I was rotated home spending several months at Fort McArthur in San Pedro, CA. Discharged in Nov, 1952. To this day, have no idea where I was in Korea since we moved so many times. Hope some of you can share these memories

I can't spell the 1st Sgt. name but when I rotated back to the States, Kenneth Merchant was 1st Sgt. I rotated some time in 1952. Came back to Ft. Comments: Hello:

My Uncle Herbert Kiek was MIA @ Chosin Resovoir. I have heard he kept Chinese/N. Korean troops @ bay with a .50 cal. machine gun until they saw him being overrun. There was slght hope he may have survivied as he allegedly had won a large amount of money the night before gambling with his co-horts. Anyway, he was delcared MIA and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, UN and Republic of S.Korean Service medals. I have recently been contacted by American Armed Forces Joint MIA/KIA Accounting Command(JPAC). JPAC and the Army Casualty Office are looking for a family member to donate a DNA sample to be used for the identification of remains recovered from the Korean War which we have been advised may be those of US Army Sergeant Herbert Kiek. I just wanted ask if anyone had heard any other information on this event, the records I have found show: KIEK HERBERT M CPL ARMY LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA 02 DEC 1950 DIED WHILE MISSING; he must have been posthumously promoted to Sgt. Any information you have would be appreciated. Thank You! Robert Kiek
