Comments: Looking for anyone who might have knew my father
John L Walden. On the night of March 23-24 1953 he
was a machine gunner with his company in a
counterattack against a strategic enemy-held
outpost. With complete disregard for his personal
safety, He remained at his machine gun to deliver
devastating fire against the enemy and enabled the
rest of his unit to withdraw to a new position.
Although wounded in action he remained at his
position until ordered to leave the next morning. He
was then evacuated to Osaka Army Hospital. He did
recieve the Bronze Star. He was from Cincinnati Ohio.
He passed away Oct 27, 1998 from a heart attack.

While in Korea he was at the Old University of Sovel Barracks/South Gate and part of the Reonansiance to Sea of Japan. He also mentioned Pusan and Inchon but this is all the information he gave me before he passed several years ago. It is my duty as his son to learn about his legacy in serving and protecting this country. Thanks for any help anyone may provide. Kevin Mooney/Bangor Maine

Comments: Hi, all - My father, Harold N. Jensen, arrived in Korea
as a PFC in the first half of 1953 from the 7th
Infantry Division, and I believe was transferred
locally to the 31st, where I think he participated in
the 10 June - 18 June siege in defense of Outpost
Harry. It was on 11 June 1953 that he was awarded his
Combat Infantry Badge, and was part of a unit
(currently unidentified to me) that later received a
Distinguished Unit Citation (also Presidential Unit
Citation), which I believe may have been awarded for
this very same first night of combat at Outpost Harry.
The DUC/PUC was probably awarded 6 days after his DD-
214 release papers were typed up in September 1954, and
so show no such award; official records of this
incident may have burned in the 1973 fire. He has the
gold-framed PUC ribbon, but no original paperwork.

I would be extremely grateful if anyone here might have
some information on this event, and I would be
especially excited if anyone recalls my Dad from this
time. To all the veterans here, we are grateful for
your service and wish you all the very best. Thank you
- Bruce Jensen and Family

Comments: My Father, Glenn Carter was just 20 yrs. old when he was shot in Hellfire Valley on Nov. 30, 1950. He was briefly taken captive, but someone saw his head wound and didn't think he'd survive, so he escaped with my father. We never knew the name of this man. My father was a Pvt. and a machine gunner. He was 6'2" with real curly brown hair and green eyes (very handsome). He was also at Letterman Hospital from Jan 1951-June 1952 when he was given a full medical discharge. He had a wound to his frontal lobes so he raised a lot of ruckus at Letterman hospital drinking and getting into fights. Perhaps someone knows him from there.

Comments: My grandfather, Kenneth Brown Porter Sr., was in Korea in November 1950. His company was surrendered on Nov 30 1950 at 4:30am. I do not have any pictures of him in Korea. However, At least one picture of him survived from his service in WWII. My Grandpa was born in 1923. He was born in Florida and my father tells me he thinks he was in the 31st Infantry 7th Division Company B, 4th platoon, Heavy Weapons Mortar Assistant on a 60mm tube.
He spent the remainder of the war till August 1953, in POW Camp 3 in Ch'ang-Song. His rank was only a Private E-2 during his service in Korea. He held the rank of Sergent until he was busted to private, just before the war, when an accidental discharge of his weapon on guard duty struck Orland Edland, another MP on his post at Fort Ord. Orland survived and never went to Korea. He lived until 1997.

Grandpa did make it out of Korea where his rank was restored only to die a few years later in a skiing accident. I am looking for any information about Kenneth Brown Porter Sr of Bay County or Panama City Florida. Service #RA34546235. He was known as the old man due to his age according to some reports. Can you help me? Thank you. J Porter

Comments: My father was in K Co. in the chosin Res. along with other members of the Company. The History Channel ran a special about the Chosin battle but only talked about the Marines that fought there and nothing about the army troops that fought and died there. I contacted the History Channel 2 years ago and that said they cant do anything about it. I made a suggestion about running a program about K Co. and they flat out said NO !!!. I think it's only fair they run a program about K Co.'s role so as not to dimmish there role in that battle. I've been writihg to as many people as i could to stress this point but to no avail. If some others start writing also maybe some thing might get done!!! My fathers name was Donald E. Blake. If anyone who reads this knew him and have any stories I would love to hear them. Thank you.
