DEFENDERS OF KOREA
We are the men who guard Korea
Earning our meager pay,
Guarding the people with millions
For about three bucks a day.
Out of the windswept mountains,
Korea is the spot.
Fighting the terrible windstorms
In the land that GOD forgot.
Out in the brush with our carbines,
Eating and drinking the dust
Doing the work of a chain gang,
Too damn tired to cuss.
No one cares if we are living,
No one gives a damn.
For we are soon forgotten
Tho we belong to UNCLE SAM.
All night the dust keeps flying,
It is more than we can stand
Hell folks, we're not convicts
We're defenders of our land.
When this short life is over
And we have worries no more.
We will do our first parade
On the bright and golden shore.
Then ST. PETER will greet us,
And lloudly he will yell
Come on you men of Korea
You have pulled your stretch in HELL.

We have been trying for 4 years now. If anyone can remember Morris, nicknames M.C or Tex... would you please contact me?
Dad arrived in Korea in 1950 or 1951 and discharged in 1953. He started out as 2nd Infantry Division he was injured and spent either Thanksgiving or Christmas in the 8228 MASH "hospital" receiving rehabilitation. Upon release from 8228, he was sent to the 2nd Combat Engineers. He met and befriended Bill Tallon and stayed in the same bunker as Bill. Dad says he didn't become too friendly with fellow soldiers, "self preservation, as you never knew who was going to still be around tomorrow".
Dad served under General Fry for a time. He received a purple heart and was supposed to receive a Silver Star. He returned home on a ship, possibly the Hope Ship to the San Fransico bay. He was given a "state room" and invited upper ranked men who were staying bellow to go and use the room.
Anyone who may remember him, PLEASE contact me.
My name is Ruth my phone number is 530-366-2326.
Thank you so much.

Comments: Please help me find a chaplain who served in the Pubwon-ni area. I have a (1964?)photo of him with two orphans from Happiness Orphanage, 20 orphans driven weekly to chapel by orphanage father via bus. One child in the picture is Goo Sooni, an Amerasian, about 11 yrs. Her mother: Jung Song Ja, "Mickey" to GIs, from Pubwon-ni, near MIckey Mouse Corner.
Just before chaplain returned to US, he took Sooni to Elvis movie, "Viva Las Vegas" and to base cafeteria for hamburg. The chaplain left "a lot of money" with Sooni's mother to "take care of Sooni".
Sooni was rescued by the author, Pearl S. Buck, brought to the states, is now married, a mother of two grown sons, middle school math teacher and a strong supporter of the Pearl S. Buck efforts to care for Amerasian children around the world.
I am writing Sooni's memoir. She would like very much to thank the chaplain for his kindness. My husband and I are trying to find the gentleman for her.
If anyone has any inkling as to the identification of this chaplain, any source for our search, or whatever, we do not have his name and would appreciate very much any help someone might be able to give. Bless you.
