Comments: My 90-year-old uncle was in the C. Co. 35th Engineer Battalion in either 1951 or 1955. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, in Washington. In May of 1951 or 1955, his friend fell off to his death during a bridge building training. His friend's body was recovered and sent back to Jackson, MS and the training continued. His friend's name was Marvin Tankland (but we are having trouble trying to spelling the name). My uncle needs help in verifying that this event took place.

Comments: I was Platoon Leader of 3rd Platoon, Charlie Co. from April 1967 until
we moved to DaNang on 2 LSTs and a Liberty Ship right after Tet
Offensive. Vaguely recall building Bridges 55, 56, and 57 on route one,
although could be confusing with our platoon call signs: Saxon Heater
57, 56, 55, etc. Does anyone have any recollections of VC burning down
our bridges? (Not too tough with no one guarding at night...all it took
was a jar of gas and a match)
Various adventures included the convoy from Qui Nhon to Pleiku
up route 19. Remember having lots of fun with Sgt. Youngblood and
the rest of the motorpool conspiring to brow beat, bilk, and otherwise
steal spare parts and even trucks from the dock at Qui Nhnon under
excuse of 'Red Ball" before leaving for daNang. Does anybody know of
whereabouts of Sgts DeCarlo, Burton, Gonzales, Cotton of 3rd Platoon?
How about Capt. Cottington or Campbell?
plan on attending reunion this April in Branson, MO. Hope to see
you guys there.
