Comments: There are tremendous records here on this site for the 3rd Combat Engineers of the 24th Inf Div. The records give a good idea of what those men went thru in the early days of this Korean War. Records are found at Reference, then click on Army Records- 24th Infantry, then download Engineers Journal June 25 - July 22. Once you down load that file, go to the last page 176 first, & then read up from there back to page 1. Whoever took the photos put them last first, but still is a remarkable story laid out in chronological order.

Comments: My late father, Herbert W. Mantick, Corporal, U.S. Army (ret) served in D Company, 3rd Combat Engineering Battalion with the 24th ID in Korea from perhaps mid 1951 until the 24th was rotated to Japan 20 January 1952. He was wounded in action 15 Jan 1952 near Kumsong, looks like between the locations of Takpau and Sachon-ni. In Japan he was at Camp Matsushima. I do not know what his Squad and Platoon info was and have never found a reference to it in his papers or photos. I do know that he was at the front at the time of Operation NOMAD. If anybody out there has information that may shed light on this it would be good to know. Trying to piece together where he was and what he may have done (he didn't talk much about it). I know that a fellow named Dan Rickert was in D Co. of the 3rd at the same time, he has been very active in the 24th ID Association - if anyone has an email address for him please advise (or if he has passed, if he has next of kin who are handling information on his behalf).

concerning destroying bridges and being trapped behind lines while pulling back to
Pusan perimeter. His memory is bad but thinks it was about a 2 week ordeal with
unloading trucks to float on ferry to cross rivers eventually getting back to perimeter.
Also an article in Stars n Stripes about it. Thinks he served under Gen. Dean.

Comments: I am trying to find information that would allow my husband Francis Boisvert a military burial when that time comes. He is now 79 year sold and will be 80 this next December. He entered the Army at the age of 16 (he lied about his to get in and him mother signed approval. He did basic training at Ft Ord in California and was sent to Japan. He signed up for three years but was drafted for his fourth year when the Korean War began. He was one of the first reponders since he was stationed in Japan. He was in the 24th Division, I company, 4th platoon. At discharge he was a Tech Sgt. He received a Bronze Star with Cluster (?) and the Syngman Rhee Citation (?). He crossed from Japan to Korea on the Red Cross hospital ship HOPE. He received several battle citations (specifics unknown)

Please provide any additional information you might have so I can help my husband trace his military history.

Thank you
