Comments: I have a coffee mug/cup bearing an image depicting
the USS Stark County (LST-1134)as the Hilo Queen.
It's a cartoon-like image, with the ship cradling a
baby. I suspect it has something to do with
dependents' cruises in Hawaii, but hope for more
information if you have it. Please write if it rings
a bell. I can send photographs if necessary.

Keywords: I was stationed on the Stark County as a seaman working with Ben Loper HM1, I was known as "little doc". Ben got me into Hospital Corps School in 1959. I went on to be discharged as a HM2 and was in the reserves for five more years as a HM1. Because of Ben Loper I had a wonderful life as a Nurse, Registered Respiratory Therapist, Registered EMT, Registered Cardiovascular thecnologist. I became a University Instructor teaching Respiratory Care and now own a Hospital in Mississippi. I owe Ben Loper HM1 a BIG THANK YOU for turning my life around. My Navy life will always be the best time for this young man of 70.
Thanks Ben and thanks to all my shipmates of the USS STARK COUNTY LST 1134.
