Comments: Sure wouldn't mind swapping stories with some old shipmates. I was aboard from 1953 through 1955. A QM. Too young for the rank I had, so I was a hard guy to get along with. I've mellowed. Had to...74 years does that to a guy.

Comments: My father, Charles Miller, travelled about this vessel for about 19 days on the way to Guam beginning on April 14, 1945. He is probably best remembered by any who traveled with him for the fish he caught off of the fantail using homemade tackle. The tackle was made by a shipmate, and traded for a Kbar knife. It took four Marines to land it, and fed a dinner to the entire complement of crew and passengers during this trip. To this day, he does not actually know the species of fish. He was wondering if anyone out there might remember this.

Comments: My father served on the LST 1101. He was a plankowner. (Part of the original crew.) He spent his time in the engine room as part of the Black Gang. He attended a reunion of the LST 1101 a few years ago. (WW II sailors, only.) He would be interested in sharing information with other men or their families who served on the LST 1101 during WW II. He was transfered to the LST 716 after the 1101 was run aground.
