Comments: I am wondering if anyone remembers my grandfather. He served on LST-1073 during the Korean war. He has passed away, and he didn't tell me much about his service. If anyone remembers or has any stories with Joe Suttles, please contact me.

Comments: The genealogy web site for the Fox Valley area, www.1familytree.com will have a newly re-designed site in summer 2008 with several special pages for Military Veterans. If you would like to add your info to our files please email us.
We will keep any personal data private, but would like photos and biographies.

We have many incomplete stories that hopefully someone can help us get a up-to-date listing of all outagamie County Veterans.
Thank you

Comments: I have a photo of my father, the late Holman C. Petroff, apparently standing on the deck of the LST 1073 which is covered with snow. It is labeled on the back "LST 1073 March '53". From the Wikipedia article and his military records I believe the LST 1073 was transporting him and other troops from Japan (he had been stationed in Misawa) to Korea, where he served on Cho Do Island off North Korea in an Anti-Aircraft Artillery unit. I have another photo dated 3 March 1953 showing my father in Inchon. So, possibly the LST 1073 took him from Inchon to Cho Do. I'd like to confirm this and also if anyone was present during that snowstorm I'd love to hear the story. Or, if anyone happened to meet him. I can send an electronic file of the photo if anyone's interested. Thanks for your service!

Comments: While exchanging Holiday Greetings, a couple of us proposed
holding a reunion before it's too late. We're proposing to meet in
Evansville, Indiana, home port of the LST 325, in mid-June.

First, I need names and addresses so we can build a mailing list.

Secondly, I need ideas!

Check the LST 325 web page for information on the LST 325 and
arrangements in Evansville.

Comments: My Dad joined the navy in 1950 just out of High School he was from Philomath/Corvallis, Oregon. He was based out of San Diego, CA US Naval Training Center. I am not sure of all the history, but am very curious on the history of the ship/crew members. I found a picture of Chief Dougal I know at one point and time he worked with him, but other than that I dont have alot of information. My Dad is Lavon Donald Brown he later changed his name to Donald Brown. I know he acted like a Chaplain on the ship and also worked in the engine room. Any history on this would be wonderful!

Comments: I remember Richard Blakely, Jack Starling, Frank Agalar (not sure about the spelling), Mr. Colburn, enginnering division, Mr. Gorden, deck officer (I think)and Chief Ford. I seem to recall Charles Blakely. I remember going into Inchan, Korea and picking up some of the first division Marines. Remember the ship getting stuck on a bar and had to wait until the tide came in. It was some kind of duty!
