father was 17 when he enlisted and had a lot of young men in
Southeast Mo. that he knew enlist too. He was in the 2nd
Division 9th Infantry L Company. I would like to help him find
anyone who was there that could reflect on this crucial time in
his life. He will be 80 this year and has begun to talk more
frequently about the War. Also, I do equine therapy with
veterans and would like to meet some from that era. Thank all of

father always talked about a man named William Froreich (pronounced

Comments: On 15-16 September 1950, the US and Allied forces,
including the 9th Regt/2nd ID, broke out of the Pusan
Perimeter and began to drive the North Korean Army
units north towards the 38th Parallel/North Korea
while the Marines were landing at Inchon. A
significant victory considering the near defeat/heavy
casualties suffered while defending the Pusan
Perimeter during August-September 1950.
GOD BLESS-SAVE THE TROOPS-FAMILIES,
KEEP UP THE FIRE

Comments: Please excuse the delay: on 13 July 1900, COL Emerson H. Liscum, the 9th U.S. Infantry Regiment commander, was killed in action in Tsientsin, CHINA. COL Liscum and the 9th Infantry were attacking the old walled city of Tsientsin,CHINA as part of the Allied Relief Expedition sent to rescue the foreign legations and foreign nationals in Tsientsin and Peking who were under siege by the Chinese Boxers.. the "Boxer Rebellion." The 9th Infantry, a US Marine battalion, a Japanese division, and UK Royal Marines and a light infantry regiment attacked the walled city. During the assualt, COL Liscum was hit by a Chinese Mauser rifle round. As he lay dying in a muddy ditch, COL Liscum gave his final order "Keep at Em Boys,, Keep up the Fire!" Unfortunately, the Regiment and the other Allied forces were pinned down and weren't able to enter the walled city until the next day. The Regiment lost 92 casualties during the battle including COL Liscum. The 9th Infantry had been fighting Filipino insurgents on Luzon Island, PI when they were sent to China (their transport ship stopped at Nagasaki,Japan on the way;;) some irony. The Allied Forces fought their way to Peking and successfully captured Peking on 15 August with the 9th being the first US forces to enter the city. Liscum's "Keep up the Fire" is now the official regimental motto and the Chinese Imperial Dragon part of the regimental crest because of COL Liscum and the Regiment's fight in China. While the Regiment was in Peking as part of the occupation forces, it used a gift of silver from the Chinese government to make the 90-gallon "Liscum Bowl" regimental punch bowl and cups. The Regiment returned to the Philippines in 1901 to continue the fight against the Filipinos. On Sunday 28 September 1901, Company C was ambushed by Filiipino insurgents in Balangiga village on Samar Island. The company suffered 70 casualties including the company commanader, executive officer, surgeon, NCOs, and enlisted although they killed hundreds of the insurgents. The company later took the church bell that signaled the attack: The "Balangiga Bell" and its now in Korea. The 9th's 4th battalion found itself fighting guerillas again when it was sent to VietNam assigned to the 25th US Infantry Division (Tropic Lightning). So the 9th Infantry has a long proud history of fighting religious fanatics and guerrilla forces.. being continued today in Iraq with its Stryker Brigade. Keep up the Fire! GOD BLESS/SAVE THE TROOPS/FAMILIES
