Hello,
I am a Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Service Officer in Yorktown VA. I am trying to assist a fellow veteran in his claim.
Mr. Phillip Fostic was in Co"A" 65th Engr Comm BN 1950-1953.
The problem with Mr. Fostic he is one of the veteran's who's records were destroyed in the 1973 fire.
He has been denied VA treatment because he cannot establish he was in Korea, even though his DD 214 clearly shows he was there.
If your father and any of his fellow veterans can help, it would be greatly APPREICATED.
Thank you

Comments: Looking for a man named McBride who served in the army with my father. He would be between 79 and 81 years old now. My father is not well right now and talks often of how he wished he could make contact with a former army buddy. The details my father remembers are listed below:
McBride from Provo, Utah (or possibly Salt Lake City, Utah.) DONT KNOW A FIRST NAME.
May have attended college in Provo around 1947.
He and my father, Ed Doyle (aka Shorty aka Curly aka Irish) were in the army together. They served in:
65th Combat Engineers Battalion; 25th Division. (Lightning patch on sleeve.)
Stationed in Osaka, Japan at the Kanoka Barracks from 1946-1947.
McBride and my father were discharged the same day, December 12th, 1947. They took a boat to California, then took a train together to Utah. My father continued on to the Northwood, ND area where he lived.
He and McBride promised to keep in touch. McBride wrote to my father, but my grandmother threw the letter away before my father could read it. (That's another story.)
Other information that may be helpful:
The army records from this era were lost in a fire. Ive even gone to Washington, D.C. to the military records office trying to find out information via that route and hit a dead end.
If you know anything about this McBride, please please contact me in Montana!
Thank you so much.

Comments: I am seeking copies of contemporary letters, photographs, official documents, articles, maps, etc. for a monograph I am researching that will document the service of the 65th Engineer Combat Battalion in Korea during 1950.
In addition, I am looking for personal narratives of veterans that served in the 65th ECB during that period. I am interested in documenting the full range of the units activities. While comprehensive narratives are welcome, I realize this is not possible for everyone. Therefore, I would appeal for a brief story recalling an experience of your service. Examples might include: garrison life in Japan; quality of training, equipment, leadership; preparations to leave for Korea; first/last day in Korea; memories of people or land of Korea; thoughts on the war; memorable engineering activity; typical day; combat experience; memorable friend; going home; etc.
The more documentation I can gather the better the result for the final work.
My father, 1Lt (later Capt) Michael A. Shaughnessy, served with Headquarters 65th Engineer Combat Bn as the S1, Adjutant.

Comments: Hello! I am looking for anyone who served with my father, George Edward Doyle. He was from Larimore, ND at that time. He was with the 65th Battalion, 25th Combat Engineers in Osaka, Japan, Kanaoka Barracks. Discharged in December of 1947. I think he was with Company C, but it could have been B. He is very much alive and would love to hear from anyone left! He is particularly interested in locating MCBRIDE (possibly MacBride) from Utah. Everyone called him MACK, so my father can't remember his first name.

Comments: My dad served in the Korean conflict. His name was Richard L. Shelton. We buried him on January 17, 2004 just 8 days before his 73rd birthday.
He served his country proudly and we will miss him. If you knew him, I would like to hear form you.
Dad was from North Carolina. Stationed at Fort Bragg. I am trying to find out more details. I know that he received 5 bronze stars, a Presidential Unit Citation, Army Occupation Medal(Japan), Combat Infantryman Badge and a Distinguished Unity Badge. I only found out about his service awards at his time of death.
I hope you hear from someone.
His daughter,
Kim
