I was in korea back in jan 52 until the end of that same year and was
wondering if the 40th ever had a reunion. thanks in advance..

I served in Korea from Jan 52 until oct 52, most of which was front-line
duty. I am proud to say that I served with some of the finest men in the
US Army and will always remember those that gave their lives so we can
enjoy freedom in this land.

I went out to California to see and old army buddy and it sure bought
back fond memories of my time in the service. We were together
throughout my whole army tenure.

I hope other people can get together as we did. God willing, I will
see again. If any one is interested his name is Charles Krohm.

Re: Your Unit: E co,& Tank Co 223 Regt 40th Div

Revisit to South Korea in 1998. Writing mermoirs of Korea experiences
with 223rd inf 40th Div from Feb 1952 to Mar 1953.

I am just starting the process of writing memoirs of my service in
Korea as a rifle platoon leader in E company, and later as company
commander of Tank company of 223rd during the period of Feb 52 thru Mar
53. I want to travel back to Korea in 1998 and revisit many of the
areas that I served in and around. The KWVA tours for 1998 are booked
up and don't really take you beyond what you could get on a standard
package tour.

I found your name etc in the KOREAN WAR PROJECT home page and want
to know about a reunion of the 223rd that is scheduled for OK Cty.
Please advise. I have talked to Military Historical Tours of Alexandria
Va and they could put together a tour of 223rd or 40th Div Korea if we
could get a group of 15 or more.

Update:

I have just privately published a book, "Reminisence of a Forgotten
War". The memoirs of my service with the 40th Division in 1952 and 1953
as a rifle platoon leader in E company and company commander of Tank
Company of the 223 Inf Regt.

It is the story of combat and training in the Kumwha Valley, Punchbowl,
Heartbreak Ridge, and Kapyoung from March 1952 untill Jan 1953. It gives
an account of stateside training, the replacement pipeline, training and
R&R in Japan, and the conversion of a National Guard Division into a
combat tested Regular Army Division led By Regular Army Airborne
Commanders. Also included is an account of a revisit to the same combat
areas in Sept 1998.

There is one that I'm having trouble with... his name is Daniel Patrick

The information I got from my dad other than that is it was July 1952
3rd PLT. Co. E 223rd. INF. regiment 40th Div. He was from the New
York area at the time of entering the service. I had gotten your e-mail
address from a Harold Beitler, he could not help me but thought that

On Wed, 18 Aug 1999 Dear Ted,

I have wonderful news! About 9 days ago, a man named John (Jack) Quinn
from Florida saw my posting under the 40th Division. He e-mailed me
saying that he got goose-bumps reading it. He was looking for a Charles
Verlin Taylor from Minden, LA.

That was my dad!

Since then, he and I have constantly written back and forth. He also
mentioned a Mr. Bill Argenti in Ohio, who was looking for my dad. They
remember my dad very well. Mr. Bill Argenti was the Sgt. in my
dad's bunker. He is having copies made of pictures of my dad in Korea.

Just an interesting tidbit. The whole thing that got me interested in
this is a pack of letters that my dad wrote to his mother while he was
in Korea. My mom gave them to me and they were so fascinating.

There was one letter that told of a friend who was walking back to
wherever they were after retrieving their mail and packages. This was
at Christmas time. He slipped and the package slid down the "hill".

They thought it had gone 2,000 feet.

Back at the bunker, (or wherever they slept), they started thinking
about "all of that good chow", and went down the hill the next morning
to get the package. It turned out to be two fruitcakes. I loved that
story! When Mr. Bill Argenti called me the other night, I started
telling him that wonderful story.

I said, " The package went down the hill...." and he said, "and inside
were two fruitcakes. Those were my fruitcakes!"

Isn't that just amazing?
