I would like to hear from anyone who knew him there and also from anyone who knows about battles the 180th was involved in. Both he and Mom are recently deceased. When my sister and I cleared the estate we found a Chinese rifle dated 1934 with the words #1Killer and a skull and crossbones painted in red on the stock. I am told by a military historian that it was probably given to Dad by his platoon as a commemorative of his actions in some battle. I would especially like to hear from anyone who might remember this event and could tell me the story about how Dad got the rifle.

Dad lived in Beach City, Ohio before his service started. He was released from service on Oct 28, 1953. As best as we can tell he was in the 8th army, Company I 180th Infantry. Like many vets, Dad did not talk about the war for many years and then we had only a few conversations about the war. Dad was on the line foe a number of engagements, earning 3 bronze stars. He did speak about being trapped behind enemy lines for 5 days before making it back to our lines. He had a patch on his jacket for 45th Thunderbirds. I know that after his time on the front line he was in the hospital for pneumonia and later was operating train engines. If you knew my father or have any information, please contact me. Comments: My father, James B. Strickland, of Okemah, Oklahoma served in Korea. We didn't talk about his experiences much, at least not the bad ones. I remember once asking the dumb question that many children ask their fathers...Did you shoot anybody? He just said that he wasn't sure but he was sure trying to. I have a few pictures of him and some buddies in Korea. One shows him on the steps of a bunker with a bandage over one eye. I asked him what happened and he said that some shooting started and he knocked himself out on the crossbeam of the bunker hurrying to get to shelter. Said he was out cold the whole firefight. He thought it was pretty funny.

Dad passed away in 1980 at the young age of 48 of heart failure. I hope somebody out there remembers him. I know he was proud of his unit and having served. Good luck to all Vets.

Comments: I am an intern and volunteer of 5 years affiliated with the 45th Infantry Division Museum. Looking for real stories for final term paper to complete my degree and possibly turn into a booklet to sell in the museum giftshop. Your stories are facinating and need to be preserved in the history of our beloved country. Happy 4th and God Bless.

Comments: After 50 years of attempting to forget, my father James L. Hill Jr, known by his middle name Larry (Pvt-2 Larry Hill in Korea)of Albany, NY, is trying to make peace with his memories - especially those of June, 1952, when he, like many others, received the Purple Heart.

My father is still healthy and very active.

Originally with the 1st Cavalry Division during 1951, he was transferred to Company E of the 180th as an artillery FO in December 1951 when the 45th Division replaced the 1st Cavalry which then began redeploying to Hokkaido, Japan.

Anyone who may recall serving with my father may contact him at his e-mail address at laba@pocketmail.com.

His e-mail can not accept attachments so if you have photos or rosters, please send them to me at the e-mail address above and I will forward them on to him.

Thanks to all of you for having served.
