Comments: I am very interested to speak with anyone be it enlisted men or officers who served with him during his time in Korea. I would like to know more about his time in Korea including October 51 when he was wounded, circumstances unknown as to how, I know it was not severe but enough that he was awarded the Purple Heart, but refused to accept it or wear it. I am also interested if anyone has a photo or photos of him during his time with the 14th while in Japan or Korea.

Thank you for your time,

John Porter

Comments: Below are my original comments, my e-mail has changed since I first wrote.

Comments: I am searching for any information on my Father. He was a Pfc. while in Korea. I have letters sent to him by my Grandmother at: "14th Infantry Reg. Co. C, A.P.O. 25 c/o P.M. in San Francisco". I am assuming this how she got letters to him while he was in Korea. he was on the .50 cal. machine gun with a "scope" on it. Pictures of him and group photos in Korea are posted on the 14th's website. Some names that I found on some of the pictures he had from Korea are: Jack McCartney from Brooklyn, N.Y.; Fred Ledford, Everett Hill, Cpl E.C. "Sonny" Kelley. If anyone has information on these people or knew my father please e-mail me. My father died when I was ten, he was 35. My son is now twenty, and I want him to know his Grandfather. If anybody remembers his name or recognizes anyone in the photos, I would appreciate it if you would contact me. I will share any info I have. Thanks, David

Comments: Looking for anyone who knew my grandfather Elmer Steger, a 40-year US Army veteran (WWI, WWII, and Korea) who according to his final discharge papers was honorably discharged June 9, 1955 as Battalion Sergeant Major of the 3rd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Division.

I (we the family) know very very little about his military career, but know he served in Africa, Sicily, all over Europe and Germany before being sent to the Pacific and the Philippines with MacArthur, and finally in Japan, before going to Korea, but this is all verbal history he relayed to family. I have been unable to verify much of it...

Anyone having ANY KIND of information or pictures or first hand knowledge of places he might have served, units and battalions and combat actions...I would ask you to please contact me to help me try to complete a picture dearly lacking one with such a long military history.

I don't have exact dates, and he is no longer with us, but his DD214 shows he was discharged from the Army on Feb. 23, 1954 and has 1 year, 2 months and 4 days overseas, all of which were spent in Korea. Prior to shipping out, his primary training at Fort Benning was as a Heavy Weapons Infantry Leader. (The Army identified things a little differently during my 26 years.) I would appreciate any information about my father's time in Korea, and his unit, specifically Co. H. Feel free to contact me at thom.cuddy@us.army.mil

Comments: I discovered today that my friend Raymond Rautiala of Chicago, Illinois had passed away On December 19, 2005.
Ray was instrumental in securing a memorial for the Korean War Veterans in Quincy Massachusetts, his home town.
He is survived by 3 sisters all of the Quincy Area and Many far away friends he contacted by email.
I spoke to Helvi Rautiala his sister of Quincy Ma.this morning and she told me the funeral for Ray will be a private one, family only. What a shame since Ray was so well known all over the USA and was such a patriotic guy. I feel it would have been fitting to include all his friends from years back all the families of men he never forget. To Ray I say this..."Goodbye you old barnstormer. May the wings of Eagles lift you so high that all you can see are your loved ones in Heaven."

He is now 72 yrs. and has for several years looked for one special person his name is Arnold E. Lafferty, Jr.. Daddy said his nickname was Boodie I think.
