Comments: I am looking for the squadron crew who served under Captain Philip Von Blond. My dad (Wes Pepper) was the right gunner in the squadron and Joseph Dunn was the tail gunner. Joseph remembers the B-29 bomber was Number 209. Their crew was formed at a base in Texas and they lived in Okinawa and Guam and flew 18 missions over North Korea. Please contact me with any information you have about this group. Teresa (Pepper) Rust at read2befree@yahoo.com

Comments: My father John Wesley Keith Pepper just passed away on September 12, 2014 at the age of 82. He was a US Air Force Veteran and he flew 18 missions over Korea starting in April 1953. He was a right gunner and flew in B-29's. He joined the Air Force in October 1951, in Kansas, and went first to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas; then to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 4, 1951; Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO in December 1951, where he trained to be a gunner; then to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan in March 1953 and then Guam. I would like to learn more about his missions and also to meet and talk to some of his crew and friends if they are still living. He shared lots of stories with my brother, sister and I. I really wish I had taken more notes!

Comments: My father was Philip Arthur Von Blond. He was killed when I was about 1 1/2 yrs old. I don't remember him as a child but I have always had a strong love for him my whole life. I have some wonderful picture of him and his crew. I was surprised to see my father's name on the web. All I can say is my father died for this country...Freedom is not Free! I honor all you veterans who have fought for us!

Comments: Hello, I am looking for anyone who knew or served with Theodore G. Swanson who was shot down over Hamburg, Germany on July 25th 1943. He took a mission for someone else the day before he was to be leaving the army to be married to a girl named Betty Parish from Northampton, England. She had received work from Theodore's commanding officer that he was safe after the crash and had told his family of that news but the family later received a confirmation from the war department that he was deceased. Is there anyone who would know who to contact about getting the correct information?

Thanks

Comments: I'm looking for any information regarding Sgt James H. Jones. He is our guest speaker this year at our annual Boom Operator's Symposium/Reunion. He was a gunner in the "Black Tuesday" mission over Namsi. I am doing my own research on him, his crew and aircraft. My research indicates that he was on aircraft 44-61940 when his crew bailed out. I am assuming he was on Folkes crew. If anyone has any information to share, it would be greatly appreciated, especially if you were on the crew with him. I am researching this without his knowledge so I can put together a gift for him after he speaks at our reunion. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Comments: My father, Curtis Bedsole, was the crew chief on aircraft # 181. On the day it was shot down, aircraft #181 was the lead aircraft on a bomb run. The aircraft was hit and the crew, with the exception of the pilot and flight engineer bailed out and were captured. The pilot and flight engineer died in the crash. (These facts are second hand from my father's memory, and may not be completely accurate).

When I was a young boy my father said nothing about his experiences in Korea. I am now retired from the Air Force and a veteran of the Gulf War. The accounts of the first paragraph are the only accounts my father has relayed to me. I am taking him to Washington next July to visit the memorial. I would love to be able to get some history of this aircraft, what happened to the crew, or anything to give to him. He was very good friends with the flight engineer and I think the fact that he was killed on a mission my father was not on has haunted him all these years.

When the memorial was first completed, I tried to get him to go but his attitude was that it was too late. My constant pushing has gotten him to agree to go next summer. I would gratly appreciate any and all help in this matter. I want the visit to be a special time for us both as father and son as well as two veteran. It is my hope that some of his ghosts will be put to rest and he can open up and let me know about his time at Kadena.

Best Regards,

MSgt. Steven P. Bedsole, USAF, (Ret)
