I would like to get copies of all the charts used by our pilots in Korea during the Korean War.
Today's specific question is what is the location of the KS Beacon at K-8 (September 13, 1953).

Linus F. Zimmerman, 82
Sierra Vista, AZ
(Formerly of Avon, MN)
February 5, 1934 August 2, 2016
Visitation and services celebrating the life of Linus F. Zimmerman of Sierra Vista, AZ will be held at The Church of St. Benedict in Avon, MN, on Friday, September 9th. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. and mass at 11 a.m. with Father Greg Miller officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
Linus was born on February 5th, 1934 to Ferdinand and Zita (Klein) Zimmermann in Albany, MN. After graduating from Albany High School, he enlisted in the Air Force in November of 1951 at the age of 17. Following his basic training, he was stationed in Korea where he was part of the 13th Bomb Squadron. During the seven months he served in Korea their squadron flew 50 missions and he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Soon after his return to the United States, he married Cecelia Maile in Camp Rucker, AL on January 15th, 1955.
Other highlights of his military career in the Weather Service included tours in Spain from 1959 to 1962 and Germany from 1964 to 1967, where he and Cecelia embraced the local cultures, cuisine and people. He retired in 1972 after serving over 20 years, returning to Stearns County with Cecelia and family to settle in their first new home on their hobby farm south of Avon.
Linus was an avid hunter and fisherman, the family weatherman, and the greatest of storytellers at family campfires. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of wildlife, plants, geography and history, which he was more than willing to share with friends and strangers alike.
Left to honor his memory are his wife Cecelia; children Dan (Diane) Zimmermann of Avon; Debbie (Dennis) Chaika of Avon; David (Robin) Zimmerman of Eagan; Diana Wenning of Woodbury; grandchildren Stephanie, Nathan, Christina, Aerin, Thomas, Alyssa, Ashley and Alaina; 12 great grandchildren; brothers Jack Zimmerman, Norman Zimmerman and Paul Zimmerman.
Linus is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Lucille Zimmerman, Lorraine Hillas, Jeanette Eckman, Margie Tracy; brothers Leo Zimmerman and James Zimmermann.
Memorials to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Stearns County Pheasants Forever are preferred in lieu of flowers.

American Air Force Pilot, a Major Johnson, he was
shot down over North Korea. I am attaching a
translation of the letter. From the letter I can see
he was a major who was shot down in North Korea on a
bombing run on a train tunnel. He bailed out and his
left leg was amputated. I think he was treated at a
Chinese hospital in Dingshou. He must have served in
War War II as in 1946 he was in Wuhan China at a

All I really know is that he was a Sargent, William C. Dawson, and prepared many parachutes. Having read about the Korean War, I want to learn more details. My dad is still living in TX, we talk now and then, however he has aged like the rest of us. I am unsure about how he feels about the subject. I read postings on the internet by people all the time, magazine articles, etc...

Comments: Pilot: Capt Tom Flake
Nav/Bombardier: Capt Bill Musladin
Crew name painted on "Georgia Boy" (Capt Flake's home state)
I'd be interested in hearing from the navigator and intelligence officer who flew with Capt "Loco" Phelps on his 75th mission, Apr 53.
I flew as gunner. Hint: we made a detour to Pyonyang that night to aid a B-29 raid.

Comments: My father (William Blanchard) was in the 13th. He contracted polio in Korea and lived about 20 more years. I found a scrap book of his and there were some pictures that I thought might be of interest to someone.
