Comments: I found an envelope of old Photos from my father and in it is a 8x10 black and white photo of the USS Surfbird.
I know that he was on a Mine Sweeper and just wondered if anyone remembers him.
He was a Lt. Cmdr. James O. Wildes
Love to hear any news.

Comments: For George Pierce, you can go to the National Archives building in Washington DC and look at the actual ships logs for the years you inquired about. I did the same for the Waxing just last year. Hope this info is usefull

Comments: SURFBIRD just had it's 3rd reunion in Nashville. 19 exshipmates were present, most from 1960 thru '69 while she was an ADG. I was the only one there who served on the 'bird during 1955 to '57. Now I know a lot of you out there who served on the 'bird when she was a minesweeper can't all be dead. Come on, get off your ass and show up at the next reunion. This was the second one for me and I'm tired of being the only one from the minesweep era. A lot of history associated with the Surfbird we can all be proud of, especially as a minesweeper. Looking forward to hearing from ya'll.

Comments: Hello,
Could you please send me the link to the new site with information for the Surf Bird. Also any other resources you might have would also be appreciated. My friend was on this ship from 1952-1955 and has lost all his photos etc. He would like to find as much information about the vessel as possible.
Thanks,
Cody Wehunt

Comments: Hunt and I both joined the Surfbird when she was being taken out of mothballs in Feb of 1952. I can't remember his first name. The two of us made up the entire gun gang for the first six months we were aboard. I would like to know what became of Hunt. Does anyone out there have copies of the ship's logs from 1 Feb '52 thru Dec of that year? Surely would like to peruse them. I remember that he told me that he had served aboard the USS Salt Lake City during WWII. He had also served aboard submarines. Had once been a Torpedoman's mate. Hope someone can help with this.
