Comments: FYI - My father is still alive (93). He lives in Palm Springs. He has no telephone at his assisted living facility. But, I live nearby in Cathedral City. From reviewing naval records and newspaper articles, it appears he was placed in command of the Competent when it was recommissioned in 1952. The newspaper articles also listed him as commander of Mine Sweeping Division 74, which apppears to have included the Competent, when Division 74 returned to Long Beach (1953?). I suspect he may be the last survior of that era.
