Comments: Good Morning Everyone,

I am writing today to inquire if there are veterans in the central Texas area that would be willing to allow me to conduct an oral history on their experiences in Korea, specifically related to their exposure to Agent Orange (direct exposure, working with the chemical agent, or burying it). Again, I am in the central Texas region and can travel to Austin, San Antonio, Houston, or Dallas areas. The oral history will be recorded and pertinent information will be published in my Master's Thesis.

I look forward to hearing from some of you and can offer further details at that time.

Regards,
Heather M. Haley

Comments: Need information for PTSD claim from someone that was on DMZ, Observation Post Ouellette on or about the 15th and 16th of April, 1972. I was with the 6th Battalion 37th Field Artillery and was the RTO for the Artillery Forward Observer. I cannot remember the Infantry Unit that was on the post at the time. There was an incident involving three (3) infiltrators from North Korea trying to get over the perimeter of the Obervation Post. This happened the night after the North celebrated Dictator Kim Il Sung's birthday. The day of the celebration, I was taken off RTO duties and assigned bunker with two (2) soldiers with the Infantry Unit. VA states there was no incident the night the infiltrators were trying to get into the perimeter and I know there indeed was an incident. I even got hostile fire pay during this time that I was assigned to the DMZ and was only 17 at the time as well. Thank you for your assistance.

We felt at the time because he was going to Korean, that my son and I could join him over there. But the army sent me a letter stating the reason that I couldn't , and the reason that I wasn't able to join him in Korean because he was on the DMZ zone, letting me know that he was fighting over there.
He is now deceased. And I would like to know more about his serve over there. He told me some stories about his time over there, but now I want to know more because his son's want to know more about there father serve in the army.
Please contact me by email, at the email address that is listed. He was from a small town in SC.

Comments: I spent time at Camp Wilson very near the Freedom Bridge. I was there from March 1970 until around sometime in late fall and after that I was stationed at Camp Custer HHQ Co. Recon. At Wison there were a few guys that I remember but the name Medicine Bow sticks out of someone that I respected. While at Camp Wilson I attended ACTA which I believe was located at Cp. Sitwell. I was at ACTA during the month of April 1970. I think that is right. Really enjoyed the time spent there, the training was awesome. Spent time on outposts watching the NO. Koreans watch us. Nothing grows at these out post as they are laden with mines and open fields or view. Been on patrols and have been within 50 feet of actually stepping foot in No. Korea. After troop reductions we moved to Camp Custer below Charlie Block and was at HHqs. Co Recon and there is where the fun really began. Lots of days and nights spent training. We I spent a lot of time No. of the river and while training rode an Armored Personnel Carrier across the Im Jim River. watched a tank that was swimming hit the cliff walls.Drank water from a mud hole. Was sooo thirsty. Agent Orange claim is in.

Not less than a couple weeks we ended paroling the area. Finding air vents coming up the mountain, We faced a squad of North Koreans guarding the area. We engaged them and killed all them. We only had a couple wounded.

Comments: July 1, 2015 marks the 50th Anniversary of the 2IDs return to Korea after the cease fire in the Korean War. The 2ID played a major role in the Korean War and it was appropriate that the Division return to continue to play a major role in guarding Freedoms Frontier.
On that day in July, the 1st Cavalry Division was reflagged as the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Howze which was Division HQ at the time. The 2nd Indianhead Division Association is organizing a return trip for 2IDA members that were present at the reflagging and for other DMZ veterans that would like to go. We anticipate a group of about 25-30 and are still working out the details. We are working on the eligibility for participation. We are beginning a major fundraising effort to help offset the cost of the trip for the returning veterans and need to know the level of interest in this trip. The tentative plan is to depart Los Angeles about June 26 or 27, 2015 to return about July 3. You will need a current passport. If you are interested, please let us know at 2ida.mail@charter.net. Your e-mail is not a commitment, but merely an expression of interest. The leadership of the active 2ID has generously agreed to help with planning the celebration events and perhaps some tours of the area. The 2ID Commanding General and Command Sergeant Major are already at work This can be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Please let us know now so we can continue our planning.

That one short year had more of an impact on me than my entire career afterward and on thru to retirement. I've posted a couple of times on here over the years, just trying to connect with some of the crew, no matter what year or years you were there because as all who served in any part of South Korea know, the connection to our particular unit/location has not so much to do with any particular time frame but more so with the fact that we have that special something in common that only those of us who were there can understand.

Comments: I was a Sp/4 working in Supply S-4, Sergeant James was the personel I work with. I knew Evenlyn Barnes she married Sp/4 Brown over in Korea. Well I got attacked by several Korea National in 1979 or 1980 in a BLDG off post, down the hill, and they beat me servely and cut my left lower arm, I remember a medic call DC help me through the rice patty that night back to camp. If any one of you soilder who serve during 1976 to 1980 please get in touch with me ASAP, I truly need your help, because they lost this in my medical record, I need someone who serve back then to write a statment verify this event did happen to me. I suffer from PTSD, any assistance in this matter will be greatly appreicated. Thank YOU!!!

Comments: Interested to know any other MacKenzie Agent Orange claims filed. Looking for proof for claim. Served on same camp as 4th and 7th Cav. All Korea camps near Imjin River should be considered for possible contamination from Agent Orange. I was there only 7 months after Agent Orange was sprayed. Do not think it could have been dissolved that soon.
