It's has now been 40 years, and things need to be said, One I love you all never did not, But some may know but probably not, the last month I was there I was told to work for the first SGT, and The First SGT said go to the mess hall. It was back and forth and I just walked off with my C company passes, of which I had in my pocket the whole time I was in Korea. I only used my Charley Company passes at the gait, as I would get the HQ pass and never use it. That way the gait never caught on. I was AWOL for 30 days, and I got to travel Korea and meat my wife's family, and had a wonderful time. I was arrested at the gait and the next day I stud in front of the Captain and all he wanted to know was that I was going to be on the plane in three days. I said Yes sir. When I arrived at Ft Campbell Kentucky I reported to the Colonel, with 20 others. When the Colonel came out of His Office He came strait up to me and told me To stand up, and reported to all the men in that room that I was the only man in that room who had not received an article 15, and made me the S-4 Majors Driver. 10 days latter I fell from the tree adjusting that antenna for the 6th time in 15 minutes up 60 ft, I fell about 30 feet but it was the tent peg up my boot. 14 men died in a Helicopter crash on the tarmac The pilot was a nut job, and many knew it.

Comments: eorge Leon Ball Sr., 70, passed away September 16, 2017 while at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born on February 22, 1947 in Madisonville, KY to the late David Lewis Ball and Elma Josephine Scroggins. George was a big Harley Davidson enthusiast and enjoyed riding every chance he got. He dearly loved his family with all his heart, and was ALWAYS there when you needed him, no questions asked.
George was retired from the United States Army where he served three tours in the Special Forces, 173rd Airborne Brigade Sept, which was the first United States Army ground combat unit committed to the Vietnam war. He had over 3,000 jumps in his military career with HALO jumps included in those. In HALO (high altitude low opening) jumping, the parachutist opens their parachute at a low altitude after a free fall, so the aircraft could fly above surface-to-air missile engagement levels and minimize the parachutist's exposure time in the sky. George was part of 16 different missions with a few of them being Battle of the Hump (1965), Warzone Delta (1965), Ho Bo Woods (1966) and Korea (1976). Although he had earned to many honors and medals to list, he was most proud of the Bronze Star (given for heroic achievement), Silver Star (given for valor in combat), and 5 different Purple Hearts (given for those wounded or killed while serving). George cared for his brothers in arms like they were his own family, and he truly would have been considered a modern-day Viking.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, James Ball, Linden Marshall Ball, and Gerald Ball (infant).
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Maja (Abbey) Ball; daughter, Amanda; sons, Lee Ball (Ellen), and John Ball; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister, Rita Stallings; and a brother Dallas Lindsey.
Visitation will be 1 till 4 PM Friday, September 22, 2017 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Inurnment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

So my apologies to my Manchu brethern, I was never a part of that Unit but I served with them at the All Brigade Dispensary with CW2 Phillip O. Kerns, SP6 Herbert (Super 6) Allmon; SP4 Sylvester (Sly) Davis, Little Smithy, Big Smithy, Frazier, SP5 Snell, SP4 Speaks from the 1/23rd, etc. A shout out to all you guys from yester year.
But in any event, back to the 2/17th FA whose Battle cry was On Guard or En Guarde. Again, a shout out to Phillip Jackson from Florida and Marion B. Shepherd from Chi-town.

Comments: Was stationed with the 5/15th FA Bn at Ft Ord in 1984 to 85 as NCOIC of the Bn Aid Station. While there was on a FTX at either Camp Roberts or Ft Hunter Liggett but think it was Roberts. in any case was called out to an accident where a Service Member was killed while helping to hook up 2 1/2 ton to a 155 howitzer. We tried CPR but the Soldier was dead. I personally went out to attempt tx and evacuation of svc member. Two medics accompanied me, one was SP4 Jeffrey Plott. Can't remember the other one's name. Henry Sablain or Sabain was our Physician's Asst. We transported patient to our Aid Station then to Hosp. Major Robert Brand was our XO.
If anyone was there or knows of this incident, please contact me at (909) 440-4668.

Comments: Was with the 1/38th Inf Rock of the Marne Bn 1974-75 at Camp Hovey during the Gunfighter's tenure. He was the 2nd Div Cdr and Stillwell was the I Corps Cdr. 1/38th rotated Companies to the DMZ and I accompanied C company there. Went on patrols, live fire, incursions, tunnel, and slicky boys. Sent back to Hovey after becoming ill. Was called Doc. If anyone was there then, please contact.
Was in a similar situation in 1978-79 with the 2/17th FA at Camp Pelham. Batteries were rotated to the DMZ and I was sent up to join C Battery shortly after arrival. Little had changed since 74-75 including the burning of shit. I got promoted to SP5 and was sent back to Pelham to become NCOIC of the Dispensary. Mark Anthony Monroe was the Bn Cdr.
Anyone from the Unit who were there, please contact me.
Was with the 377th Medical Air Ambulance unit in Yongsan from 1980-1981. I was assigned to the Osan Pltn (Bad News Bears) as a SGT Flight Medic. In late 1980 or early 81 I was on one of the choppers assigned to pick up three casualties from a minefield. I treated the patients and loaded them on the Huey and transported them to the 121 Evac Hosp. I don't recall who was on chopper except for SP4 James Sherman who i believe was from Fl. I don't recall who was the PICor the copilot but it may have been CW2 Halsey. If anyone recalls this incident please contact me.
