I was the radio operator on duty with Commanding officer of TNT (tunnel neutralization team). Cant remember the Major's name....he was a giant of a man....former special forces. Our radio and command was set up within about 100 meters from North Korean outpost. We were in the S Korean Buffer zone in a small trailer. when off duty lived in a tent not far away....got freakin' cold in the winter there. Anyway, looking for anyone that was part of TNT. We did attend a dinner in our honor in Seoul months later attended by Park Chung Hee....(killed by own CIA not long before I left country.

Keywords: I was stationed (or maybe I should say co-
located) with the 547th Engr Co (Float Bridge) at Camp
Mercer, Korea from July 1963 to April 1964. I was with
USACDK (US Army Chemical Depot Korea) and we occupied
the two warehouses on the right and the one on the left
as you came in the main gate. We occupied the "new"
ciderblock barracks just below the water tower at the
back gate (which was always locked) and had the orderly
room on the other end of the building from that of the
547th which was closest to the fence-line. In
March/April 1964 USACDK moved to Camp Carroll in
Waegwan (reason Chemical Depot was too close to DMZ, or
so they said). We dug a pit with a bulldozer - doned
rubber suits and gas masks and dump every imaginable
chemical - hundreds of gallons if not more - into the
ground on a knoll behind the second storage warehouse
on the right. Yet, when I returned to Korea and
revisited Camp Mercer in 1978, I saw no noticeable
change in the surrounding country side plant-life-wise
which I found surprising. Camp Mercer had not changed
at all from 1964 to 1978-80 when I returned althought
the village outside the gate had. I still have a
company crest of the 547th Engr Float Bridge company,
tokens we used in the slot machines at the club and
lots of photos. I remember the only Special Forces Det
in Korea was co-located with us. I am trying to locate
guys with USACDK including SSG Earle Foster, Jim
Sparks, lst Lt Kem (US Army), and of the MPs including
Everly, Grulke, Spears, Connear, Barnes and others.
Also would like to contact anyone else there in the
60's. More to come. Ray Bows, M/Sgt retired (Pvt-2 to
SP4 back then)

Unit: C CO 1/72 ARMOR (1972-73)

Service or Relationship: Army Veteran

Comments: I was stationed with C Co, 1/72 Armor, 2ND Inf. Div. 1972- 1973 as radio mechanic. Also because of my height, I went to the DMX twice a month and "walked the line" and maintained raidios up there. A truely crazy place! I only felt safe near Tongdushon and Camp Casey and further south.

I love South Korea, the people, their food and their culture.
