Subject: SEARCHING FOR MARINES CAMP HOWZE

Michael Millican wrote on June 10, 2012

City and State: DALLAS TX

Unit: B CO.1/32ND INF 76-77

Service or Relationship: Other

Comments: They moved the 1/32Bn. very quickly by Army standards
from one place to another and all over Korea.
Ground Pounding Grunts, no Mech, only choppers and
some lucky 11C's got the Gama Goats.

My question to all those Marines that took over the
1/32 mission there at Howze is this;
Did they have any clean up or re-fitting of the Camp
after we 1/32nd left the Camp?
Did they restrict patrols from entering certain parts
of the patrol routs when the Marines took over the
DMZ?

We went everywhere
57 below zero and 8 hours later, at times we were
meat popcycles.

But the purpose of this post, is to investigate what
the Marines did any diferent than we did, and did
they Bio-clean Howze after arrival for posibly Agent
Orange.

Howze was the 2nd ID HQ before the Buccaneers were
sent there, why did they move HQ? Wasn't that about
the time that the Army was fessing up to some Agent
Orange being used at anytime in the country?

They say now that the DMZ was one of the most sprayed
areas, but do not say where exactly on the DMZ it was
used. The US supported DMZ is by my standards a very
small area.

Hot Rice Patty or Cold, for a Ground Pounding no Mech
Grunt, no matter what the weather, no matter where we
were in Korea, we were going to get dirt in every
oraffice of our bodies no matter what. In our food
and everywhere else.

They say that Agent Orange dosn't last long on the
suface, but on the DMZ, there was eather Hot Rice
Patty or Cold, it's a mud hole with rice to enjoy
your C Rations in.

Any Marines from the Marine ocupation of Camp Howze
out there? I just find it odd that our unit was only
there for a short time, by Army standards.

I just wonder sometimes, would they have chosen a
white Officer to be base commander there? or the only
Black Guy? I did notice that our Bn commanders didn't
hang around the camp much.

Was it two birds with one stone? Colin Powell was
the my lai massacure investigator.

I'm not implying anything, just asking some questions
that I haven't seen posted here.

Buccaneer (The Choosen) B Co. 1/32 Inf 76-77

The Choosen was one of our Bn. matos refering to a
korean war battle...
But in 1975-77... one could say, Chosen for what?

If you ever looked or saw one of our battle plans for
the North back then, it was drop behind the lines and
anti tank your way back home.

So if the 2nd ID was going to make a sacrifice to
slow them down, it was us on a one way ticket.

The 2nd Inf commander was one chopper crazy guy... it
may have even worked, but if we were expendable, how
expendable were we?

Were we expendable enough to be sitting on an old
Agent Orange Camp, or maybe expendable to the point
of patroling known contaminated areas?

I just find it funny now, that most all the Officers
were rarely with us, or even set foot on any patrols.

Any Feed Back from the Camp Howze Jar heads???
What Marine unit was that?

Michael Millican

Greaves/Lawton, Greaves was the first camp on the right
as you crossed north on Freedom Bridge. I am an Imjim
Scout and still remember my training at ACTA. Our
guard post was GP Jane. I spent most of my time on GP
Jane and patrolling the DMZ. I still have my ImJim
Scout patch and certificate somewhere.

I found my yearbook, 69-70, from Korea. I was in Alpha
Company, 3rd BN, 23rd INF, 2nd Infantry Division, 3th
Platoon 1969-1970. I have scanned the whole yearbook
into my computer. What a wonderful history this is for
many fellow soldiers that served during that time on
the DMZ. I would imagine that those soldiers that are
looking for proof that they served during that time,
for AO claims at the VA, would have something to tap into.

Anyone interested in the Yearbook please contact me. I
am asking the Webmaster of this site it they will post
Yearbook.

Comments: Had a brief friendship/romance with Bob Miller who
was discharged in Mar or early April 1971. We met in
the snack bar and went to movies together. My name
(Tedonna) is very unusual and he should remember it.
What he never knew is that we have a daughter
together from that time and I've never been able to
locate him to tell him about her or the story of her
life. I would like to do that if he would email me.

Keywords: Robert Miller Camp Hialiah Pusan Korea 1970-71.
Possibly worked in transportation unit. Knew Charlie
Delk. Believe his homestate was Michigan or Minn.
