Comments: My father died in Feb 1993. A couple of years ago I moved my mother to a nursing home and came across some of my father's Army papers. In the papers was one that described his actions as leading tanks across a mine-field in a Battle for Mundung-Ni on Oct 10, 1951. For his actions he was awarded a Silver Star. I came across this web-site while trying to do some researech and am hoping there is someone out there who will remember him. He seldom spoke of Koerea other than to say it was very cold and he's never eat rice. Thank you, his son, Leroy Richmond II.

Comments: Dear Sir,
First of all I am sorry for you and your wife's loss. Thank you for contacting me about your father in law. My father never spoke of the war other that just a few sentences so I am unsure if he knew your father in law. Yes, they were in the 72nd Tank at the same time, that much I know. I can only assume since there were only 139 men in Company B that he did in fact know him as well as SGT Stuczko. Ed Stuczko Jr has been a true blessing to me by sharing many photos of the camp they were in in the Chorwan province, a real hot bed during the war as well as the company roster.
I hope you and your wife will have a lttle more peace knowing these men did their duty without complaint and we are very proud to call these men our fathers.

Comments: I am the Battalion Historian for 1st Tank 72nd Armored Battalion, which was A Company 72nd Tank Battalion during the Korean War. I am looking for any personnel who may have primary source documentation, diaries, photographs, orders, etc. of their time, or their family member's time, with the A-72nd. Meaning not just of battles participated in, but of movement throughout the peninsula. I am basically trying to reconstruct the path that A company took from the 72nd arrival in Pusan to its reorganization as the 1-72nd stationed at Camp Casey. I am trying to fill all the gaps in the time-line so that on any particular day one can determine where A co was and what it was doing. Even something small like a journal could prove invaluable in painting the big picture. When enough information has been compiled I will try to put it out in a format for all to utilize, like a website or book. Please if you have anything that you would like added to our histories please email me, 2nd LT Colin Marcum at colin.marcum@us.army.mil

I was in Korea for a time as a young man. The people were friendly if not contrite. I didn't know the history of my unit at the time but it was an honored one. I would say that it is still so today. Men and women that came before me and those that came after served with esprit de corps and dedication to duty, honor and defense. Young and old, Officer and Enlisted 11B (Grunt) to supply.
I was there the day That Pvt. Thomas Dean ran and jumped over the line to bring back a wounded man. Actually I was the SOG. Dean did so even after being ordered not to. He was a hero that day (I was pissed at him then). Yet there is little or no mention of his act. There are many stories of bravery, valor and selflessness throughout military history. Tom Deans is just another small but important act that American servicemen do every day (more so today in Iraq) that go unrecognized because of the current political climate what ever it may be.
BTW and .Tom was eventually honored and and .I got an AR15, something about having unauthorized equipment at the border (night vision, .50cal ammo, 5.56mm, TS-HH). Who cares we won the day.
To those of you looking for info on men or women that served in past wars, past occupations or current occupations, you may never know the whole truth. However, remember this, men or women that served in spots like this are and have always been dedicated to being professional, diligent soldiers. (Abu Grab aside

When they saw each other at my front door, they saluted, and both
shed tears. As did everyone watching. We sat in the backyard and
listened to the stories from all of the pictures on the table. It was quite
chilling.
I was sorry that I hadn't gotten the opportunity to introduce them
earlier, as my father's Alzheimer's was in the early-mid stages at that

didn't come to him as quickly.

Comments: On May 26, 1953 our 4th platoon was struck by Chinese shell fire killing 7 men and wounding (some very seriously) most of the other members of the platoon.I was with the 3rd platoon, which was dug in a couple of hundred yards away, and was sent with the company medic to assist them. We were not aware how badly they were hit until we got there, however the medic and I proceeded to load the wounded on to his litter jeep and some of the others in one of the tanks including two men on the back deck whose legs were severed (however I believe they survived) We then had two of the less badly wounded men drive the jeep and the tank to the aid station. I mounted the back deck and held on to the two wounded guys while we drove through the Chinese shellfire. I have always wondered what subsequently happened to the guys we helped especially the two fellows on the back deck of the tank. Any info would be appreciated.

Comments: I am trying to find a copy of the History of the 72nd Tank Bn from 1950 to 1952. It was written by a former member of my company, Lt. or Capt. Clark. (I think that was his last name.) He was the official historian of the 72nd Tank Bn at that time - 1952 - and there was a book published at that time. I think the title of it was "THE HISTORY OF THE 72nd TANK BATTALION". I had a copy of it at one time but with moving etc it has disappeared. I am very interested in finding a copy. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide. One of Lt. Clark's close friends was another lt. in my company - Wm. Sykes, whose home was Nogales, AZ. Thanks again, Bill Bross

He recently passed and never really said much about his experiences in Korea. I
